Freelander 2,s and Forest Car Rallying.

As most of you will have gathered by now I am a big fan of car rallying, particularly off road on Forestry Commission tracks and am involved in the running of the British Rally Championship (BRC), the British Trials and Rally Drivers Championship (BTRDA) as well as smaller local events and just wondered how many other forum members (if any) are involved in rallying either as officials, marshals or competitors?

I can only remember one post from somebody in Scotland who was acting as a timekeeper.

I would be very interested to here from anyone out there who is involved and perhaps we could exchange experiences and keep each other informed of events in the future?

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

Bill,
Am more than sure we have crossed paths, have seen Wallasey call signs on safety plans. I am an MSA Nat A scrutiner involved in many forrest and tarmac events, also Pirelli and WRC. If not on scrutineering team I sometimes go on stage with Scottish Motorsport Marshals Radio Club (Tartan 52). Recently have also driven chief timekeeper full rally route 1 hour ahead of event at McRae Stages and Merrick Stages. Next weekend I am on scrutineering team for IRC which is using Morrisons Land Rover Stirling workshop.
Another little job is championship scrutineer for Scottish Land Rover Owners Club at Scottish Championship Comp. Safari events. Have scrutineered at British Cross Country Events at Castlr O'er and Forrest Estate.
One event high on my enjoyment list is Tour of Mull, this year did a 50 mile circuit to examine damaged car where copetitor was injured,( ALL OK) roads were still closed for most part. Auto was brilliant on these roads as long as you did not look at trip for MPG!!!

j77,

Best way to get involved is to join a car club, you have Scottish Motorsport Marshals Club who train and have club members at most forrest events in Scotland. Also have radio division. You then drive through stage to your allocated position.
IRC is at Perth and Stirling next week fri. & sat. www.rallyscotland.co.uk for details. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

A friend of mines` son crashed out on Saturday on the Tour of Mull - in an Escort that he had spent 2 years building - they was badly shaken up and he hurt a shoulder but didn`t go to hospital. (I believe there was an airlift of at least one competitor off the island). I wonder if it was his off you attended?
The word was that the sections were VERY slippery and there were lots of incidents because of this. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Friday night accident I attended was a Subaru on Dervaig and Saturday was Fiesta on rocks at Killiemore Loch Scridain.
Am sure I saw you somewhere with course car, my FL2 is silver GS with SE wheels.
On Saturday night into Sunday I drove from Tobermory-Salen HQ-Craignure service back to Salen for 15 minutes then off to accident from Salen - Craignure - Killiemoe - Balnahard - gruiline - Salen and eventually back to digs in Tob.

Hope its quieter at IRC next weekend. All FL2's (3) Gone

Thanks to everyone who replied, it is good to see that the FL2 can keep up with the bigger 4x4,s in the harsh world of forest rally organisation.

DURAND. I am sure we have probally crossed paths at some time on the Scottish Rally when it was a 2 day event held in May/June (midge season anyway). My daughter and I used to come up to Scotland with our caravan and work with Gary Headrige and Andy Smith on the radio side of the event.
We only stopped when it became a 1 day event and we could not justify the cost of taking the caravan to Sctland for one day.
DURAND and GMCOWAN. Tour of Mull I have been barred from this rally by "her indoors" after I spent more on malt wiskey in 10 days than she spent on a 3 week trip to OZ. But I do not dispair as I will get back somehow.
THE MUSE. Nick I well remember your exploits and if I am correct some graet battles with Mad Malc and Dave Read in their MK2.
CG Do not personnaly know your pal but from my contacts with the club on the Trackrod rally they are all good guys.

Keep up the good work folks and lets get some more FL2,s out rallying.

If any forum members in the North West are interested in a day out on a forest rally PM me and I will get you started.
