Strange noise!

Hi has anyone noticed a strange noise when idling or slowing down. Sounds like a the type of wind noise (not farts) Embarassed they used to put on ghost/horror films. Noise is evident on idle, increases slightly when revs raised to 900 - 950 then dissappears when over 1000revs. No difference if auto in D N R or P Also noticeable when slowing down. Switching of engine gives a long "oooough" sound (could be its climaxed! Razz )
Been into dealers who have dismissed auto thinking it may be power steering (been a few problems I understand in this area according to workshop controller). Its booked in a for an assessment on 17th so hopefully will know more then, but thought Iwould get feedback from forum members in case similar has happened and what was the fix?

Thanks

Strange Noise - UPDATE

Vehicle was back at dealers today for evaluiation of the noise. The conclusion is that the noise is down to the turbo. Technician hadn't experienced the same noise before so problem was referred back to LR Technical Services. Perhaps the expected response from LR "nothing wrong - noise acceptable". Have been advised by Dealer to continue to run vehicle for a few more thousand miles then report back if problem still evident.

Annoying but little I can do at the moment? Anybody else had turbo noise or other problems?

Thanks

It's not the dreaded fan/aircon noise that has been discussed in another thread is it?

Strange Noise - still investigating

Thanks JT for the suggestion it might be related to the air con fan. Having sweated out a journey without air con or blower fan on it seems the noise I am getting is still there.

Just to check - Is the possibly offending air con fan off when you have the air con switch (Economic /Off) switched to off and the blower fan switch also set to off?

Thanks

Hi ive had a noise to from my turbo on my 09 freelander 2 se auto. took it to two dealers. one said he has never heard of it before. the other said it does make a noise on the autos mostly.

my problem is from 1st to 2nd gear the turbo sounds like a dump valve.
like its venting preasure but no loss of power.
sometimes setting off from junctions the turbo sounds like its done a loud sneeze (chew...) sort of noise
i know it sounds strange but best way i can describe it.
im new to this site and also landrovers. but so far i like the car.
if any one to has a similar problem or knows if a dealer has fixed it. i would be happy to hear from you.
car going in tomorrow for a new back light got condensation in it. its common apparently. will ask them to look under the car at the turbo to see if there is something a miss.
thanks.

What appears and sounds like turbo noise is still apparent on my HST Auto having now covered a few thousand miles since my last posting. The noise is only apparent when at idle or just above idle speeds. Possibly its still there at other engine speeds but isn't detectable because of the other operating noises etc. Most noticeable when switching off when the turbo spin down sounds a bit like a helicopter stopping ie a decaying whirring noise.
When the engine/turbo is cold and switch off the noise doesn't appear to be there. I have waited with the engine running at idle for 30 secs or more to allow the turbo to stop spinning but the noise is still there. Not an expert on turbo technolgy but I understand the F2 unit to be a lightweight Garret unit which could still be spinning at idle rev speeds?

Without driving another F2, it's impossible to say whether performance is being damaged by a possible fault, all I can say is that the car is very brisk when required. I normally drive with some moderation on the basis of trying to better fuel economy which still is dissappointing and some way off whats's claimed by LR and other forum members. Maybe I am mistakingly bringing Manual box owners into the equation, where I would expect some 5 -7 mpg betterment

I will keep the forum up to date with any developments - may well call on dealer again soon or try independent LR specialist to get their thoughts. Please keep any feedback from yourselves coming - very powerful tool when a dealer says nothing wrong and you know better.
