Keep stripping it down your very close to finding out if any rockers are broken and hopefully no valve damage

The detergents in the oil hold the dirty particles of combustion (soot mainly with diesels which turns oil black) in suspension until the oil becomes saturated then it deposits the particles it can’t hold on the inside of engine. If the oil is changed before it becomes saturated then the insides will stay clean. With the extended servicing schedules employed nowadays unless the vehicle is doing a very high mileage on motorways thé oil becomes clogged before service mileage is reached. The car makers saying 15/20 k mls or 2 years if you are doing 5 k mls à year stop-start local runs lead to à mucky engine….not nice if you have to work on it…..! FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

Ive stripped a lot more stuff but struggling to get the rocker cover off. I did however remove the cambelt and I can turn the camshaft by hand easily - shouldnt be able to - there's no valves being opened / closed. So assume all rockers are gone at minimum.

Dont have the time / energy so sadly the car will be sold as is for spares and repairs. Please shout if anyone is interested, West Oxfordshire way.

It does sound as if your engine has failed. I have a 2008 engine sitting in the shed, if you fancy swapping the engine. West Norfolk area.
