United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Aintree Green

Welcome, this is a very unusual forum group in that everyone is so helpful and there's a wealth of experience through ownership and none of the usual negativity you normally see in this type of group. The Freelander 2 is a great car, probably because it's mostly Ford & Volvo Laughing I think its true to say it's the most reliable Landrover you can buy. It certainly ticks all the boxes for me, It tows well, comfortable, reasonably good on fuel and a pleasure to drive. For me, there is only one minor issue and that's the limited boot space. Good luck with your search Thumbs Up 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

I agree with milthedog, the FL2 Forum is great, and I believe that the FL2 is fast becoming a Classic.

Well Done Ford (and the team that designed the Shape and the Software)

PS I bought an SD4 in 2012 because my wife liked the elevated view and the colour.

Coming from years of driving reasonably quick hatchbacks and estates, I was unsure, but I have grown to love the FL2s fantastic driving position and experience.

This earlier thread gives an indication of what cars we owned prior to the FL2.

If the Freelander had a biscuit instead of a full size spare wheel then there would be more room. But I would rather the full size spare, actually over size 255/60R18. 30kg a piece! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black
It’s goodbye rather than hello.

Having retired from caravanning aged 78 at the back end of last year, it was time to sell my Freelander after 8 and a bit years of ownership. The forum has been great for advice and humour.

My TD4 SE manual, of which I’m the second owner has done only 57k (50k in my ownership) and has been faultless, probably due to being over maintained than to the LR schedule, 3 Haldex services at Bell, etc.

It’s the longest I’ve ever owned a vehicle and it’ll be missed.

Thanks to those members for advice over the years and good wishes for the future.

Morning all

After several weeks of working through which car to “upgrade” my 4wd duster to, requiring a heavy nose weight towing capacity and ability to drive comfortably and reliably and safely to Scotland with the family, with the occasional trip across fields to pick up a deer, I find myself here!

Just bought a 2013 GS manual, 84k, lots of leather sun roofs etc, which is with LLB for a cam belt and Haldex service before I collect it.

Having shunned a late disco 4, a high mileage Volvo xc90, and a Touareg that had been bought out of salvage (I discovered after running a car search) I landed with a Freelander 2, diesel manual. I’d have taken an auto ideally but you can’t always choose everything.

Previously I’ve had 3 x series land rovers, great fun, labour of love to keep on the road!

Hi,

I am a newbie on here having just purchased my first Freelander. I have owned 4 other 110s and a series 3 in the past.
A few teething problems but looking forward to doing some off road driving soon as i can.

Cheers all for now.

Farewell John, have you retired from driving or just changing to a more modern car?

Good Luck for the Future

Thanks Ian. No I haven’t retired from driving, I’ve ran a second car for many years and up until about 10 years ago it was usually a classic, MGB followed by a mint MK2 Escort RS2000, I’ve always tinkered but realised I was getting too old to crawl under so I moved on to more modern stuff, a 2.9 Porsche Boxster followed by a new Mazda MX5 which I traded in a few months ago for a new Škoda Fabia Monte Carlo 1.5 Tfsi, this more suits my 78 year old body, goes like the clappers and averages around 50mpg.

I’ll miss the Freelander but it’s not being used, I sold it on the Motorway and it’s being collected on Friday.

Good luck for the future. John. 64 plate TD4 SE
