Noise after turning engine off

Hi there,

I am new here as have just bought a 2014 Freelander 2 Metropolis.

When I turn off the engine, it makes a high pitched tone for roughly 30-60 seconds (coming from the engine area). Any idea what that is? If that is normal or if I should be worried?

Thanks in advance.
David (Proud new freelander 2 owner)

As far as I’m aware it’s the throttle body shutting down and it’s normal I think they all do ot so don’t worry mate.

I was sooo tempted to say it’s the clutch flange intercooler bearing and it means it’s on its way out and mega expensive to fix Rolling with laughter

As above, the whining is the throttle body reopening after shutting the air intake ready for you to start the car again. You want to get worried if the whining starts to be joined by clicking as that means that the plastic quadrant gear in the throttle body is worn.

Ah ok, phew! Thank you all for the quick responses.

I'll keep an eye on it, and will be taking it to my trusted mechanic for a full check over next week anyway.

I think you will be well pleased with your new FL2 they do have problems but they are a lovely and practical car.

Yeah I'm really happy with it. Only 48K miles, so should hopefully be with us for a long time.

Welcome Dave.

FWIW my 2014 SD4 SE Tech has been making that noise for 11 years - sometimes it can go on and on for ages - more than 10 minutes.
No clicking though.

I got worried at one point and bought a throttle body gear repair kit from Ebay - its now been sitting a shelf for years. Laughing Jules

Jules.

I am fairly sure the Throttle bodies on the later FL2s were much improved and more reliable than what was on the earlier models. 2013 FL2 XS.
