i6. From bad to worse.

Well, after the "electrical gremlins", all has been ok - until yesterday.
Sudden loss of power, blowing more smoke than a battleship and barely limping home.
I couldn't look at it yesterday as I was on my way to house/dog sit for my sister and was by now running late.
Anyway, today I've plugged in my autel and doing a live test it said there was a misfire on cylinder 1,4,5 and 6.
The engine was again belching smoke and idle was up and down, with petrol pouring from the exhaust. I turned the engine off and back on again an redid the diagnostics and it only came back with P0204 00 code for cylinder 4, despite it quite obviously affecting more than 1cylinder.
However, still nothing on dash as far as an engine light.

Petrol at exhaust tip and on floor.

That is terrible news

Your FIELD EXPEDIENT REPAIR of the wiring harness didn’t last long.

I am not sure if the injectors are switched on the + side or - side. If the switching is on the - side then the return wire if shortened to ground would cause the injector to stay open and you get way too much fuel.

Fixing the wiring harness should remedy the situation as long as the shortened wire didn’t break the switching circuit inside the ECU.

Hopefully some new wires will get you fixed up.

Good luck

Paul

Thanks Paul. I have some injector plugs with wiring on order. I was contemplating changing the injectors, coil packs and spark plugs , but it's an expense I could well do without right now.
So, as i'm "old school", I'll go with the "cheapest fix first" and just replace the injector plugs/wires, then go from there. If that works - and fingers crossed it does- then I can replace the other parts over the next few months rather than all at once - spreading the cost. Thumbs Up

That makes perfect sense.

Just be careful so that you don’t break something expensive inadvertently

Good luck

Paul
