Our new "mini" Freelander 2

During our time with the Freelander 2, Alana and I have often asked the question, "if we were to get another car to go alongside the Freelander 2, what would it be?" Well recently, we answered that question...

We have got ourselves a Skoda Yeti 4x4!

For those of you that don't know, underneath the car it's basically a Freelander 2 with it's Angle Drive to switch the drive 90 degrees and a Haldex at the rear. We are hoping to do similar to what we have done with the Freelander 2 and add a few bits of protection, some steel wheels with all terrain tyres on and do a bit of light off-roading with it Smile .

Anyone else owned a Yeti in the past? If so, what were your thoughts? Everyone so far has left nothing but glowing praise for them Very Happy . https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

I also have a friend who had one for 3 years.
He thought it was brilliant. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

A very capable car is the Yeti,
indeed we had a new member (SE4X4Response) joint the group on our "
BORDA" training/assesment day several years back,
her first offroad driving experiance and a relatively new car,
the driver and car proved itself exceptionly well around the course,
For me I find the Yeti is a little harsh on the road. DAVE.

We are looking forward to testing ours off-road, once what we see as the necessary bits get applied to the car Very Happy . I do have to agree with you Dave that you feel alot more of the lumps and bumps through the car and it does feel stiffer compared to the FL2. Although it feels positively heavenly compared to the 2004 Mini Cooper S that we have recently sold Laughing . https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

They are a great car. My dad had 2 and my brother had one, all 4x4s. No issues whatsoever with them. They have now moved on to a Kodiaq and a Karoq, 4x4 DSG autos.
Quite like them. My current plan when time comes to replace the trusty Freelander is veering towards a Superb 4x4 estate. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

My dad had an older 2 wheel drive superb and it was VERY nice to drive and was very highly kitted out on the inside too! I cannot imagine how good the 4x4 version would be! Smile I've grown up with Skodas as my dad loved the brand. My first memory was a rear engined rapid. I think there was a Skoda Favourite and also a couple of Felica's. I think before I left home he had an Octavia estate followed by the Superb. Very Happy

So I always have a weakness built into me to always go back to the Skoda brand. Well technically I haven't as I own the Freelander 2 and Alana owns the Yeti, but that's just details... Laughing https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

Yetis are cool!

The replacement Karoq is a bit charactorless in comparison

I have a Kodiaq
Mine is the 4x4, some are front-wheel-drive only (it's quite capable in the mud, even on standard road tyres)

We are really enjoying our Yeti ownership so far! Very Happy The power delivery is really nice, super comfortable and just great to do long journey's in. Smile We have done a few more videos since the opening post. We compared the size of it against our Freelander 2:

We discussed the good and bad bits of our newly purchased Yeti:

We recently installed a Darkside Developments Sump Guard to it for when we take it off road:

There is a very interesting video coming out this Friday with it's next modification Smile .

Skoda have/had a very strong range of 4x4 vehicles that can handle off-road conditions really well considering that's almost a by-product of their design Laughing . https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

Very much a fair comment Laughing . We are keeping an open mind. As much as this isn't as thick as a Freelander 2 guard, Darkside developed it and used it themselves when they put their Yeti through hell and back Laughing . So on face value it has to be pretty strong Very Happy . We look forward to taking the Yeti offroad when we get chance to put the car and the sump guard to the test Very Happy . https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Firenze Red

Having owned four Freelander 2’s lastly a 2014 Metropolis - I’ve been driving a 67 plate Yeti 2.0 4x4 DSG since March this year.
I find it really good, and obviously cheaper to run - better mpg, insurance and tax, so that’s all for the good of my wallet.
It’s pretty good at towing our 1,500 kg caravan and my various trailers so that’s a bonus.
My partner has a 64 plate Black Edition Yeti, so we’re now a his and hers household.

Had two Skodas in the past - 100% reliable.
I think the marque is the best of the VAG group in reliability and customer satisfaction terms. Jules

I do have a soft spot for the Black Edition Skoda's after owning the Rapid Black Edition in the past.

Jules: I have to agree with you 100% after growing up with Skoda's in my lifetime and owning a few Very Happy . I remember driving an Audi once and not understanding why people would pay so much more for than the equivalent Skoda. Smile https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

This is our 3rd
2004 - 2009; Fabia estate (1.4Mpi)
Far better to drive than the equivilant age Corsa, or Polo

March 2012 - May 2021; Octavia estate (1.6TDi, remapped to 150BHP/230Ib/ft, at 90,000 miles)
Bought at 7 months old/7,000 miles, sold at 170,000miles

Owned my Kodiaq from May 2021
