I've looked through quite a few threads on here and elsewhere and I realise this is a "there is no answer" type of question, however...

I mainly drive on roads, sometimes on private estate grounds (predominantly gravel/hardcore tracks) and some very occasional grass and mud, when I am shooting and fishing.

My FL2 currently has Davanti Wintoura 235/55R19's and they are getting a bit ragged around the edges, much like myself

Since I need to change tyres anyway, and a very British winter is imminent, my thoughts were to put something appropriate on each corner.

My thinking was to drop to a set of 17" with 235/65/R17 tyres, and my shortlist includes Hankook All Season, Continental WinterContact, Michelin Crossclimate 2, or Pirelli’s SCORPION VERDE ALL SEASON. I have the Pirelli’s on my Skoda Kodiaq and I've been impressed.

We ran Hankook all season on a Clio for 4 years , excellent tyre , on a Subaru outback we ran Bridgestone A005 Weather Control and also Michelin Cross Climate , the A005 were really good , The Michelin the same , that car was used occasionally for shooting and fishing ) but I had a couple of nearly misses crossing muddy gateways when the tyre treads wouldn’t clear .

On the FL2 ( shooting and fishing and helping on farm ) we used Pirelli ATR which were very quiet and had good wet weather performance for day to day driving . . Obviously it’s horses for courses . The FL2 often had to venture off tracks across wet muddy fields that would have stranded a vehicle on All Season .

How about halfway house like a Michelin Cross Contact ? However , if you’re out on your own , no other angler or gun to help / tow out if you bog down , I’d be happier on an ATR .

Pirelli ATR .. Try that on an All Season !

I do mainly road work but once or twice a month I shoot and go off rd, I have BF Goodrich Urban terrain not cheap but very quiet on rd and very good in mud and snow when we get it and get good milage out of them, have BFG AT on the Defender again very good off rd never wear out they perish before the tread wears, but its all down to personal choice and preference at the end of the day> 2013 FL2 XS.

In my opinion there's really no need to drop down to 17" wheels. I've been using 235 55 19 winter tyres on standard 19" FL rims without any issues during some pretty extreme winter weather here.
FWIW, my favourite winter tyre is Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme which I usually leave on all year round. It's a fairly hard compound so the wear rate does not seem to increase significantly during the summer months.
It just does seem to be worth the hassle of swapping wheels over twice a year. driving on the right side

I have a set of Yokohama Geolandar G015s (235/65R17) - nice tyre, and reasonably quiet on the road too

They serve me fine up here on the farm!

Davanti are a decent tyre, to be fair, I can see three different options available -
DX 640
235/55 R19 105V Davanti DX640 £125
235/55 R19 105W Davanti PROTOURA SPORT £127
235/55 R19 105W Davanti ALLTOURA HT £129

But there are loads more good brands to consider. it really depends on the required tread pattern. All-terrain or road patterns. Check out this website - www.tyres4sale.com

Had Continental's cross contact as per original spec fitted in 2016; did 39,400 on deliberately downsized 17" wheels, across the whole of Europe, Alps, Pyrenees, etc. Fantastic tyre, secure, smooth, stable. Changed them in 2019 for Pirelli all season; what a disaster. Thought there was something seriously wrong with alignment or steering mech, had it checked three times. Car wandered all over the place with every change of road surface, potholes, white lines etc. I could even tell the sex of a dead bird! They failed MOT after 23,000 and changed back to Contis in May. What a staggering difference; the car is immediately back to it's stable, secure positive self with no wandering issues. Speak as you find but Continentals are now my default tyre.

If you are only using for light off road, then the FL2 will cope with normal SUV Tyres all year round.
The built in wheel traction control of the FL2 is extremely good.

In reference to pauls post above.

Have just changed the DS from my normal 18" wheels with Continental cross contact fitted to the 18" winter wheels with Pirelli Scorpion full winter tyres, and they are at best squirrelly - fighting to keep in a strait line at 60mph and above. I do remember a marked change when I went from winter tyres to normal mud & snow tyres but it was a while ago as I didn't need the winter tyres last winter.

2.5mm left so I am biting the bullet and changing them for Dunlop winter Sport 5 tomorrow.

Wigan doesn't often get the really bad weather that much of the UK gets (even the weather aviods Wigan) so they don't get fitted every year, but I am nipping to Germany and they insist on them after 1st november.

The Freelander 2 only ever had Goodyears fitted, Muds in summer and winter tyres in November - March, never had a problem other than rapid tyre wear. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
