Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Hi all,

Just hanging on to this thread.... I have a similar locking issue as thread starter describes. I have both key fobs and issue is the same on both. Mine is a -07. Rechargeable battery in the key fob was replaced in both fobs back in 2017 when I bought the car. Will a new battery swap be a place to start?

Mine came with 2 battered key fobs,

One worked intermittently, the other not.

They were both aftermarket fobs, as they just prized apart with a small screwdriver.

One battery showed 2.9v and didn't lock or unlock the car, the other 3v and did work, but I had to wave the fob about near the windscreen to get it to work.

I opted to buy 2 new fobs which came with Panasonic batteries.

Rather than de-soldering the old batteries from the fob boards, I just clipped off the old batteries from the boards with a pair of side cutters (leaving as much of the battery bracket/terminal still attached to the board) then just soldered a small wire from the new battery terminal to the old board terminal.
Never solder directly onto the battery.

10-minute job and the fobs were £7.95 each including battery.

Worked perfectly.

It would absolutely be worth a try to replace the batteries. The issue I am most unhappy with, is that all 4 windows sometimes drops to the bottom when unlocking, despite only a quick push on the button. Can this be caused by bas fob battery also?

Its called Global opening, if you hold the unlock button down when unlocking, it opens all the windows.
Same when locking, hold the lock button down and it puts all the windows back up.

Fully aware of the "global opening" function, but this has happened several times without any long depressing on the fob... That's the mystery! Very Happy

Button getting stuck when unlocking?

Is it the original fob or does it come apart?

Same with both fobs. Both are the originals, but casing has been replaced.

The button on the circuit board has failed. It should be a long press.

Do the internal dashboard lock/unlock buttons work normally?

Do the ALL the internal up/down window switches work normally?

Are you trying each Fob on its own (with the other well out of the way in a metal box) and trying all buttons work individually?

Is global opening and closing working as expected from each fob.

When did the Fobs last work reliably.

At the moment I can't see this being a car problem, but also fail to see a common problem effecting both Fobs at the same time. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

For the two last posts.... That may be a good approach. Yesterday, the car unlocked when I walked towards it after work, with the fob in my pocket. So, buttons might be the case. Both fobs are stored in a place at home where the can "reach" the car. So, now I will place one of them a place like a metal box or something and use the other to see if the problem disappears. Hope so Smile
Will an anti-static bag also work to isolate the fob`s signal?

Or a biscuit tin, it might need to be emptied, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find some help with that.
You are putting your fob into a faraday cage. This should make it unable to transmit or receive radio signals to or from anything outside the cage.
