United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Barolo Black
TPMS

Hi all. My Metropolis has the tyre pressure monitoring system but did not have a full size spare. I have now acquired a full size spare but it has a standard valve. Is it just a matter of having the TPMS sensor fitted to the wheel and the TPMS system will then "see" the sensor and report back accordingly?

Thanks in anticipation

TPMS was my very first query on this forum.

Here is my post and answer.

From my own experience with my 2014 Metropolis I'd say no they won't work.
I had a second set of alloys with winter tyres on - these were built up with new genuine Land Rover TPMS sensors and they wouldn't work.
The reason being is that the car needs to know the code off each sensor to be entered into the memory - I never thought of this before hand and didn't make a note of them.
I had a permanent error on my TPMS all the time they were fitted - some days you'd start up - no problem, but by the time you'd done a certain mileage, usually about 7 miles, it would come back with an error.
Slightly annoying!!

I have re-read my original post and the clue is that it was a genuine LR pre-programmed TPMS Valve.

I have 6 TPMS equipped wheels and they have been fault free for about 7 years.

My TPMS valve was purchased from
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-FREEL...rmvSB=true
and was described
single genuine land rover tyre pressure monitoring system sensor, stalk and locking nut. brand new stock with a full battery life and already programmed to auto learn on your vehicle so not expensive trips to LR to set up. postage remains the same regardless of quantity ordered.

All I did was to have it fitted and it worked perfectly. The FL TPMS just seemed to adapt to running the fresh new tyre.

I bought a secondhand set of Evoque alloys for my 2014 se tech. They did not have TPMS fitted so I bought from eBay a genuine set of sensors for about £70 and had them fitted at a local tyre depot. The car recognised them straight away and I never had a problem with them.

Thanks for the information so far, I certainly will update when I get round to it (when real life stops getting in the way Smile ). According to some sellers information It appears the sensor has to be pre programmed to be accepted or seen by the system without further need for "additional hardware or tools".

One more Question if I may. Does the TPMS system see all 5 and report back if the spare is low pressure?
