I suspect there is a skill/equipment shortage in the independent garage EV servicing field.

My local garage owner says there are enough ICE cars locally to keep him going until retirement - he's not interested in all the investment in personnel and tools required. Jules

I guess it is the same as any buisness, they want to be sure on return on investment and time scale before investing in something that they don’t know fully about.

ipace just had 42k service £300,mainly brake fluid pollen filter and wiper blades, 21k service was cheaper

That sounds a lot for items mentioned.

Im guessing at approx:
Wipers 2x £30
pollen filter £30
brake fluid £30

As its a Jag lets say £150 for parts + £150 labour Jules

Today I tried a new feature that has been added to our EVSE. It put 80 miles worth of charge in the Ioniq 5 from the sun, which is a pretty cool addition to this unit.
This would be the equivalent of about £25 worth of diesel in the Freelander, so represents a decent saving compared to a similar sized diesel vehicle.
Pretty cool stuff. With features like these coming on line, it makes driving an EV an even better proposition than it is already, at least for those of us that are lucky enough to have home charging and solar.
One thing is for sure, the sun can't make petrol, but it can make electricity. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

indeed, £80 for pollen filter Rolling Eyes , brake fluid change is always fairly pricey, got a free metal water bottle though and a good wash Laughing At work

How does it compare with later (current) EVs?

Ipace is very capable, a lovely smooth quiet and rapid car, lots room in rear for my fast growing teenagers, the boot and one seat down holds my sons drum kit.
Im keeping it longer than 3 years as i see no vastly better options out there right now.

I think some newer EV,s can fast charge quicker, maybe slight more efficient?? and you can plug 240v things into the charging socket if required , nice but relatively pointless for me. At work

Nice.
I've not gone for a battery, as it doesn't make financial sense. We're now on an EV tariff, which means very cheap electricity between 12 and 7am. The solar takes over in the daytime, so offsetting the slightly higher electricity charge between 7am an 12 midnight. I also get paid for my excess generation in sent to the grid, so a battery wouldn't be worth quite so much as it would to someone who isn't on an EV tariff. Although I guess I could charge the battery on the EV tariff, and use the energy when it's expensive? Something for me to think about. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I do think that battery storage will be become normal, be it by car or stand alone battery. There will simply be to many people in the country wanting electric at the same time to supply everyone at the same time.

We drove our Ioniq 5 from Cornwall to Sussex yesterday. The journey was hideous, with 3 incidents causing massive traffic jams. The average speed from where we joined the A30 to Exeter was just 25 miles per hour. However this had an unexpected benefit, in that we used very little energy from the battery. We got to the M5 at Exeter with 82% charge remaining, which is more than I normally see at the same point. We normally stop at the Exeter services for a bite to eat, a coffee and bathroom break, so this is the time to top up the battery. However as we arrived with such a lot of energy remaining, there was absolutely no point in topping up the battery, so we carried on to our lunch break stopping point.
As it happened, we got stuck in more heavy traffic, meaning our lunch stop ended up being more like an afternoon tea stop. However I did put the car on charge, then went off for food. I then got a notification from the car saying that it was 5 minutes from termination of charge, so I had to go and unplug it before our food was even ready. This isn't the first time the car has finished charging before we're ready, so contrary to popular belief, my experience is ours charges too fast. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I am sure that domestic 'back up/storage' batteries will be necessary in the future.

It will take ages (and a lot of investment) for National Grid to build enough Pylons to get the projected increased energy to all corners of the country. This, plus random peaks of EV charging, will most likely end up in a very complicated Electricity Tariff structure.

My only experience of this brave new world is from my brother, who has installed a complicated solar electricity and water heating system, complete with storage battery. He has had tried to explain to me the benefits of giving and taking power from the grid, but to me the original outlay is very expensive.

But, like getting rid of Diesel Cars, I expect that the Tax-Man may eventually persuade us all to have Solar with Storage Batteries. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
