Blend Motors Not Working - Now Resolved

Hello all,

I have a 2007 FL2 SE and I have been doing battle with the heating system. The blend motors have all stopped working and I'm only getting hot air into the car. The AC pipes in the engine bay are cold so I assume the cold air isn't getting into the car. I have checked Relay 5 and the big 100A Fuse 16 and all good.

The error codes for the motors are B1081 to 1083 and B1085 and B1086. I can't believe that all the motors have failed at the same time. I assume it is something else causing the issue?

I also have a Positive Temperature Coefficient Heater error code (B10EA-14) which I think is that electric heater. Could that error cause the other faults?

Any ideas or hints?

The PTC heater code is pretty normal, as they failed quite often, even mine has failed.

Blend motors do fail too, although all 4 failing seems strange. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

If memory serves it's possible using the AP 200 live data to look at the blend motors action, or you can hear them opening and closing by selecting the modes, easier with engine off. Also I am sure you can reset them using the AP200, but happy to stand corrected.

I changed the Air Con Heating Control Module on mine with one from a scrappy. I suggest if you are doing this change it for one with the same code, there is a label on the back of the unit.

Thanks for the feedback, sadly I have to ask what is the AP200? I have an IID tool I use on my D3, I have tried using that but can't see much data just trigger levels for the motors which seems to be zero?

Hello all,

Todays update I have removed the motors with the cables still connected and as I change direction of the air i.e. head, body or feet from the control unit nothing happens. i.e. they don't turn at all.

Having looked at the wiring diagrams the motors use ground point G3S134-1 which the electric heater also uses. As the electric heater is giving an electrical error, that could be causing issues at the ground point and so the motors have the same issue? It would explain why all the motors have stopped working at the same time. Perhaps clutching at strews but worth a go.

I have found a complete heater matrix on The Bay for £38 with S.N 6G9N-19B555-HM and the one I have in the car is 6G9N-19B555-KJ. I'm not sure if the last two letters are significant at all? Does anybody know or is the Land Rover part numbering system so complex that not even GCHQ can crack it? Very Happy

I was just going to swop over the electric heater and see if that works, at worst it should get rid of that error.

What was the condition of earth point G3D134? These earth points in the front driver/passenger compartment have been known to get damaged and/or corroded.

Hi I hadn't check it as wasn't sure where it was. Many thanks for the diagram that help loads. I'll have a look tomorrow.

I'm hoping if the heater has gone wrong then that ground isn't ground any more and so the motors can't work as they can't see the signal as their ground point is floating.

Well that is my theory! happy to be corrected. I'll find the ground point and see if other systems are connected. If they are and they work then that my theory blown out of the water! Very Happy

Earth Point G3D134 seems to provide earthing for more than the Heater.

You will have to see what works on this diagram and home in on the junction points such as S2D134C.
So far it would seem that you have only identified units on the right of the diagram as not working, can you confirm units on the left work?

I would go for an exact match with Air Con Heater Control Unit, or are you on about changing the complete matrix

I was going to use it as spares to try and replace items on mine, starting with the electric heater unit.

Seeing a complete unit should help me look for any items which have come loose.

So really just for more investigation.

I have the automatic duel zone system as far as I can tell as it have the Sunload sensor on the dash.

Hmmm looks like my theory is rubbish then as all the items on the Left are working ok.

More head scratching then, perhaps the motors have all died perhaps get a new one to check that.

Ok more squinting at wiring diagrams and all the motors go into connect C23AE so if that has a problem it would explain the motors not working and the electric heater is an un related issue?

Just need to find that connector now! I bet it is buried out of sight some where. I can't find a diagram of connector locations, does anyone have one or point me in the correct location?

I am not sure that information on where all the looms and connectors are exists.

Please do not give up on your logical approach to finding why all these items should stop working at the same time. It is best to prove a unit/module is faulty before changing it if you can, swapping items may find the fault BUT introducing untested units/modules may introduce (perhaps more serious) faults.

Try to find somewhere to check that earth in the wiring or connector near the failed unit.

I have not looked yet, but could the problem lay in a common control module in the Climate Control that interprets the common digital control signals into instructions for the individual Motor Vane Units. Has this control module lost it's power (fuse).

I take it that you are using the Freelander Repair Manual and Wiring Diagrams from this site. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
