HB3 Bulbs Blowing - Coincidence in timing?

So last year at service the guy said my headlight bulbs had at some point exploded, which from a quick google search is very common. I have been running Night Breakers. I had the car serviced a couple of days ago and have now just spotted both headlight bulbs are dead again. Coincidence in timing or something being done at service that could cause some sort of spike in power?

I tried ABD HID conversion kit after the previous service but one of them died as well and I just didn't have the energy to faff about so just stuck the old bulbs back in.

Battery was replaced last year. Got a fair bit of ground loop noise on the aux input as well when using 12v power supply to power the audio device. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎

You were unlucky with the hid kit mine has been faultless in the 4 odd years if had them fitted. I'd suggest you just get a replacement bulb for that and put them back in. The standard hb3 bulbs are shockingly bad, and nightbreakers run hotter and fail all the more quickly. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Ship has sailed on that one. In my annoyance of it failing and the constant reminder that they could cause an MOT to fail (I am that unlucky) I cut them out and binned them. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k

I too found the more expensive , brighter bulbs just blew even quicker than the standard ones.
I did the HID conversion 3 years ago - had no issues whatsoever.

Im afraid I can offer no suggestions that you dont already know about.

Its basically a penny-pinching bad design. Jules

Like BobU my HID conversions have been ok for a good number of years and successive MOT passes. I fitted the 35w variety. At the thick end of £30 for nightbreakers you will soon exceed the cost of a new conversion kit. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Yeah, really annoying. I’m just gonna get standard bulbs for the time being. It’s summer and it needs to pass its MOT shortly. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k

It's not uncommon for the HB3 bulbs to fail in pairs. The CJB turns them on pretty hard, so life of them is short. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The replacement for the SE.
