2013/14 Carplay Options

So I'm looking at purchasing a 13/14 FL2, but I'm thinking if I own it for a good few years the lack of modern features such as car play will eventually annoy me so I've been looking at option to future proof it and I can't seem to find any for the 2013/14.

Obviously there are plenty of options for the 2012 model and below but like I say just can't seem to find anything for the 'newer' models.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried the Search function near the top of the web page, it works really well.

Or you could type 'freel2 carplay' directly in your browser & a list of threads comes up. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yes. I have. But can’t find any working examples or reviews, rather many on websites that don’t seem the most reliable. So it was a simple question to see what others have done and used. A simple answer would have been nice rather than a passive aggressive, condescending one. But thanks for the response!

No 100% sensible or reliable option on the later infotainment systems, even the earlier model options have downsides associated with upgrades.

Basically you're stuck with what LR provided with the vehicle, as there's a large amount of integration with other vehicle systems. Basically if you change the infotainment system, other stuff stops working. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The replacement for the SE.

Exactly what displays/options do you want?
Lots of FL2 owners run things like standalone modern GPS in addition to factory fitted items.
My GPS does internet searches, weather, points of interest, traffic, and so on.
The FL2 will connect to most phones for in/out calls and playlists. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

So. I have looked into this so many times, over the course of owning a 2011 and 2014 Freelander 2.

For the older models that don't have a screen, you had the option of buying a double din unit but then you'd need to get the CANBUS module, need to buy a new amp to keep the sub in the boot and you may lose parking sensors. Oh and maybe the clock.

Or you could buy one of the standalone CarPlay/Android Auto units that you mount like an old school GPS unit.

For the models that already have the screen in the cubby space, you could again go the double din/amp/canbus setup, buy a standalone unit, or this:

This seems to be a lgeitimate unit that integrates into the existing system in a much more pleasant manner. If it works as advertised, it's the best option out there. The downside is it's quite expensive. I have spoken to their support to ask many questions and they are very helpful, suggesting you'd get at least some form of aftercare support if needed. But due to the cost I couldn't justify buying it. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎

Just buy a cheap Android phone & leave it in the car. (I bought a Nokia C31 for $129 earlier this for other reasons.) It takes 2 sim cards & a seperate memory card up to 256GB.

Or look for one of the cheaper phones that takes a terabyte memory card, unlike the expensive phones which simply don't take memory cards.

You don't need a sim card. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

If you read the first review of the linked advert then it seems to be ideal for your needs.
