Just put it in and see if the car will start. If it starts its the right key for the car. The remote door locking operates from the internal battery which in turn is charged up when inserted in the dock. The batteries do fail to charge as they get older preventing the car from unlocking but once in will still alolow the car to start normally. The buttons also can fail. There is a guy on here that refurbs the keys at very reasonable cost, cant tell you his name though sorry. |

we have 2 Freelander's on the drive and at weekends leave them unlocked during the day and sometimes put the wrong fob in but it just spits it back out if it is not the fob for that car and no harm done . 2009 FL2 S now gone
