I tend to read that first before looking at Youtube videos as although they are useful and can offer insights and shortcuts they are not always correct. Jules

Right so tried running with the MAP disconnected and no joy. Live data gives the rpm as about 210 spinning over so I guess the CKP is OK. Throttle position about 85% so I guess that is not stuck shut unless its a mistake due to broken teeth however it was in the open position when i removed it last

The only anomaly with the live data is that engine oil temp is showing as 279 degrees which it quite clearly isnt. So faulty sensor?

Checked online and apparently this should not stop it running

so looking like more damage was done when the timing slipped?

So started stripping it again and decided to have a look at the throttle assembly. Turns out the gears are stripped which apparently is a common problem. The flap was in the open position so would this stop the engine from starting?

No, if the flap is open the engine should start. If the flap is closed the engine is starved of air which helps stop a diesel runaway when an engine runs on its own oil.

so carried on with the strip down. Managed to get the fuel filter off, starter motor and intake manifold before rain stopped play. Like an idiot I managed to break the intake manifold by missing one of the very hidden lower bolts. A few available on ebay I guess but still hacked off with myself.

What I did notice after i removed the manifold is that the intake valves I can see (one in each port) are all closed.

Another thing there were a few hard to reach bolts missing here and there and it appears to have had new glow plugs so I guess whomever fitted them wasnt to particular about what went back on. A lot of the manifold bolts were loose as well. Maybe the same outfit that swapped the timing belt without replacing the tensioner.

I would purchase the later Inlet without the air flaps. Also there are two types of Glow Plugs 5 v for the later and 11v for the earlier VIN dependant

You can obtain a repair kit from ebay which replaces the plastic gear with a metal one. I bought one in anticipation of the gears stripping on mine at some time. Jules

So took a break from the frellander as i have a lot else on following the death of my mum.

carried on stripping it on monday and managed to get the rocker cover off (remember when rocker covers were a two second job?)

And there I found my problem. All the inlet cam followers were broken son obviously no intake was occuring.

The valves all look to be the same height and i measured them with a vernier and they all seemed pretty close.

Plan is now i have the injectors out is to reinstall an injector in each cylinder in turn an turn the engine over to see what the compression is for each pot. Obviously if one is down on compression then I have bent valves.

I can only do this by feel as I dont have a compression tested to fit this engine unless anyone can recommend one?

replace broken rockers and rebuild it chances are it'll be ok and replace TB as closed circuit won't let it start
