Hello all,

I bought a set of new original wheel arch rubber edgings, and they have a thin side and a thick side.
Which one goes inwards and which one goes outwards, that is the visible side when looking at the wheel arch from standing next to the car.

I would guess, that the thin side is outwards, as it would otherwise look kind of strange with the thick side visible.


Also, the front set, which are in one piece per side, is not long enough to cover the whole arch edge.
So which end is the correct end to star with.

I have the correct numbers according to Land Rover and Partslink.

Don't fit them !!!

They hold moisture and dirt from the road, then it rusts the wheel arch.

I did.

There seems to be a sort of different views on this, where one side fits a variety of these, with or without metal strips inside, and after sealing they give the ends a dab of rust proof.
And the other side say no, don't fit them.

My car is from late 2006, and it's been used all year and in snow, sand and what not. I took the last opened up split one off today, and cleaned up all 4 arches with gasoline (Benzin).

All 4 arches are totally rust free , with not even a slight thing in sight.
I therefore gave them all a good layer of rust protection and pressed the new edge protectors on. Thin side "downwards" or outwards. I then sprayed a dab of rustproof on all ends od the rubber strips.

I'll watch them all carefully for the next year and see if it actually helps, or not, in which case I'll throw them out.

I already took off all plastik panels on doors and sills etc, and cleaned the mud and dirt off. All in perfect condition with only clean shiny original lacquer. I gave it all a fresh rust proofing and reassembled. I plan to take it all off once per year at least and inspect carefully.

Next is all the wheel arch liners out, cleaning and rustproofing.

The only area I had any rust on a wheel arch certainly
didn't start where the rubber strips touch the metal,
I would fit them.
but it's your motor your choice.  DAVE.

All new original parts now installed.

Most tapered flat end to bottom starting flush to back of arch for front and flush to front of arch for rear. If memory serves, the one that goes near the air intake is supposed to be a different design. When I replaced mine after coating it with rust proofing first my airbox side was just like the other. Someone with better knowledge re the airbox side will likely post up soon enough.

The OEM front ones are not identical. The air intake side has a extra "seal". Jules

My front arch protectors are dropping off so need to decide to replace or just leave off
Instinct is to replace as arches are in good condition after nearly 11 years
The two which have come off my MY 2013 look identical

On OE did all models and ages have one with an extra seal on the air intake side?
as the ones on mine may not be original.

When I checked the rear - none were there, and I bought the car from a JLR dealer. The rest arches are also in good condition.

It’s personal choice I was against putting any back on then got a cut to size set from eBay without the metal insert which causes the warping problem smeared loads of Waxoyl on the arches then fitted the rubber ones not had a problem since.
