BUCKET LIST TRIP 2024 Beamish and Crick. photos attached
Hello all, this years bucket list trip on my 2010 HSE auto with 129k miles was as follows.
Last Tuesday the 9th I drove down from West Scotland to Chester-Le-Street where i stayed in the Red Lion. This to allow me an early arrival at Beamish Museum. Arrived at 10 past ten and the place was mobbed already. Enjoyed a great day there with so much to see and do, Tram trips, old school. old church, drift mine and ice cream. Rain came on and I left after about 4 hours. Probably not long enough but had to drive down to Ashbourne in Derbyshire to the Dog and Partridge for the night. This again to give an early start for the Crich Tramway Museum. A wonderful day again among the old trams,. being 82 I used to go to my work on a Glasgow tram. Managed a run on an old Glasgow tram, and more ice cream. Superb museum with lots to see. On Thursday afternoon i found a fabulous car museum called "Great British Car Journey" in Ambergate with over 130 old British cars on show. Spent an enjoyable couple of hours there, no ice cream. Too many to mention but here are some. Humber Super Snipe, Vauxhall Cresta, Morris 1000,my first proper car, Hillman imps, Mini's , Fords ,Rover 820 and 75, Jaguar, Rolls Royce and many more. Really well worth the visit. Friday morning headed home via Lancaster services to meet up with old school friend for a cup of coffee and a natter. Left about 145pm heading north for a 3/3.5 hour run home.
Bad accident on M6 north above Tebay. Just warnings saying M6 closed at Junct. 39. Due to major hold up, and trying to divert, along with hundreds of others, I eventually got to Penrith just before 7pm. Yes 7pm.Got back home to Renfrewshire at 10pm. Very long day. Once back on M6 set cruise at 70 all the way to Glasgow. Car performed brilliantly. What helped is that I had a full oil flush done on the autobox 3 weeks ago and i am sure this helped. The organisation for diversions, control etc on the M6 was a total shambles. As far as i could see we were left to find our own diversions etc. Hundreds of cars and trucks trying to get to and move on old A6. Apart from that I enjoyed my bucket list trip for this year.
Not bad for an oldy. Just realised, all my photos are on my phone. Will have to get them transferred to the PC and put some on here.
All the best to everybody and just keep on Freelandering.
