United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

Changed the bonnet gas struts yesterday with some new ones to prevent future headaches
Took her for a major service today, two new track rod ends and tracking.
Then finished the day off with new side repeaters and vents from Powerful UK.

Productive day I'd say, shame I missed the snow by not having the car most of the day.

New headlight bulb

In and out of Halfords within 10 minutes and NO scraped knuckles. Absolutely painless and popped a spare in the glove box. Disco3

Yesterday a front disc grub screw was extracted by drilling it out, and the front disc cleaned up, until the new front discs arrive on MY07 which is having front and rear discs and pads for the spring.

Finally got around to fitting a fibre optic loop in place of my busted bluetooth phone module. Only taken me 2 years.

Hopefully no more on/off/on/off on the nav screen and radio when driving now!

Seeing as today looks to be the only nice, but chilly day today. I took the opportunity to give the car a quick wash ready to make it all dirty again this weekend. Very Happy

Giving this a whirl as per one of Beavis Pits's mods.

I like the principle, but not sure if I'll keep it long term...

Little drive in the country: 1450km - Stirling Ranges

Washed the car, first time since June. Checked it over, then packed it half full of stuff and drove 10 hours through rural Western Australia to the Stirling Ranges. Lovely part of the world, unique flora and geology, and hardly any tourists as it's the end of a brutal summer.
The road through the park from the North carries the summer grain harvest to the port at Albany on the South coast, and the verges are covered in spilt grain. This brings the birds, and there's flocks of green parrots gorging themselves, and families of Emu dads with four or five adolescent chicks not sure whether to run or stay and eat their fill: makes for some interesting moments...

1450km this trip, maybe 400km on gravel through the back roads and the parks. Very stable on our WA ball-bearing gravel, cruising at 100-120km/h with aplomb (and road pressures too, forgot my compressor). Ticked over 220,000km, thank you very much.

Only one niggle with the fuel gauge, doesn't always start first time, and the lights aren't fit for outback roads – otherwise it's a comfortable and capable traveler on dirt or tar, and dispatches road trains in fine style.

Do you really need a car radio aerial as big as that on top of your car in the outback?
