JLR have outsourced parts supply to Unipart

In an article today by Adrian Mardell, JLR CEO, he says that JLR apologies for the delays for thousands of vehicles held up awaiting repairs last autumn.
He says that, during restructuring, JLR have consolidated their warehousing and outsourced to the Unipart Group. He has admitted to 5000 'critical parts' outstanding at its worst time.

My own present delay ( 3+weeks) awaiting parts seems to back this statement up.

I have involved the JLR Executive Office in my Extended Warranty claim and they are due to give me an update on Mon. In the meantime the Warranty have supplied a hire car (presently a Ford Galaxy MPV) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

It’s just a brand. Brands are discarded and reused like a fashion item. Of course they’ll probably have gone bust and gathered up all the tax breaks and government money they can when they shut down and gather up more when they restart and make all those nice new jobs!!!

My daughters fiance was working for NHS/Unipart Logistics and said its a good operation. He then got a promotion for that site in December but has now been moved ''temporarily'' to the JLR/Unipart depot at Measham which he says is vast.

I wont say on here what he has said about the place after only 2 days there !!

With regard with how the Parts Shortage problems are affecting me. (Still no date for delivery of ordered parts)

I have learned by talking to the various Dealer/Extended Warranty people, it seems that the Dealer has confirmed that they have many cars awaiting parts and repairs apart from mine.

The is a shortage of Dealer Courtesy Cars available for loan. I was originally told that the hire car was a temporary solution until a Dealer Car became available. It has been hinted to me that JLR cars on Full Manufacturers Warranty have priority for Dealer Loan Cars.

The hire company has a shortage of LR sized cars ???

I can only conclude that the Dealer/Warranty/Hire/Parts problems are a chain reaction to failed change of Parts Division Owner/System. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

This all sounds like it could part of the reason given by insurance companies for upping their premiums or even refusing to insure JLR vehicles. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

This has been ongoing for 6 months, easily

We had supply issues during Covid, understandably, but things have gotten even worse since then, and now the warehouse amalgamation has royally Censored everything up

We've had parts on order for months and months, with no ETA for any of them Rolling Eyes

I have a 2017 L405 as my other car and the front facing camera failed about a month ago and was diagnosed around two weeks later. It has given me three dash warning lights / messages, any one of which will be an MoT failure.
The part is on “long term back order”, with absolutely no indication of when it may ever arrive. My MoT is due in August and even that’s looking doubtful.
I’ve been a huge advocate of LR for the last 13 years; I’ve paused that currently 😢

Worse case scenario but lets say the part is not fitted by MOT time and your car fails due to ''non essential'' warning lights on the dash.

Will JLR then provide a courtesy car until the part is fitted and provide free MOT once it is ? ...........I'll not hold my breath Rolling Eyes

I have been told today that my parts have arrived and my Differential has been fixed. (just over 5 weeks since it was booked in)

However, I have been told I need new rear brake discs and pads and this will take another couple of days.

Both the Garage and JLR Exec Office ran me this morning with the good news and I have confirmed that in the meantime I can use the Extended Warranty Hire Car (Ford Galaxy) until I pick up my own car.

My FL2 is booked in for its 10 year Service at the end of May, and it looks like I will be keeping it. At the moment, despite the JLR problems, I will be hoping to get another year on the full Extended Warranty.

Reason - The FL2 is a very nice car to drive and suits our needs. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Even though I bought the car from them new, I very much doubt that. For one thing, they are very short of loan cars, even in good times 🙁

I suspect it’ll be a paperweight while I carry on using the FL2 🤷‍♂️
