England 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Lago Grey

I'm getting low to mid 30's on my 17 mile comute which is mainly A roadster and dual cabbageway. A bit more stop start on the way home at the islands...

I have seen it creep up to 42 while going through miles of 50mph motorway roadworks back along.

2011 SD4

With the increase in bio in diesel all mpg will drop, I always wondered why I could never achieve 40 mpg in France when travelling at the same speed as in the UK , then it clicked, France used more bio in their diesel which has a lower calorific value than pure oil produced diesel so you use more fuel to attain the same speed. United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

Just got back from Abergavenny, surprised to see petrol AND Diesel being sold at the Morrisons Esso filling station for about £135p/litre.

10p cheaper than home. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

Likewise, I’ve just returned from Banchory, which is very rural near Balmoral Estate and diesel there £1.34! Whereas back home in Perth £1.43.

Perhaps l ought not mention the 51.3MPG average for my Kodiaq, over the past 3,000 (or so) miles?
Or the 63MPG average, on a trip to Withernsea & back, last year??

I was considering buying a FreeLander, but barring my wifes insistence on replacing it with an auto-box vehicle, maybe l shouldn't
I think an Octavia Scout may be an answer?

Good choice. They stopped selling the Scout in UK markets a few years ago though, my dad was looking to buy a new one to replace a 4x4 Yeti so bought a Karoq 4x4 instead.
My brother has a Kodiaq 4x4.
I'm seriously considering a 4x4 Superb estate when the time comes to replace the beloved Freelander. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

@bobupndown

It wouldn’t be a new Octavia Scout, as they’re not available to the public anymore! (‘999’ orders only, or were)
For me though, it has to be a TDi, even if it has an automatic
The local Ambulance service (YAS) use them as Fast Response cars, & l know a lot of Paramedics, l’ve never heard a bad word about them
Whether it’s due to (Scout) availability, or other reasons, YAS now have 3 (at least) Kodiaqs in the fleet

Before buying the Kodiaq (March 2021), l did look for a Superb 4x4 estate (TDi), but they’re ‘rocking horse droppings’!!

Yeah we have the scouts in work too, also with blue lights attached! They are a well liked member of the fleet.

The Superb 4x4 estates are rare and seem to command big money as well but they are out there if you are prepared to wait for the right one or travel to get one.
My Freelander 2 is a 2014, currently with 115k miles on it so I'm in no rush to change it and if it continues to provide the reliable service it has up till now I'd happily drive it for another 5 years.

Still averaging 33mpg daily, 38-39 on a motorway run and over 40 when driven like Miss Daisy. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I think this was a trip to York, via; Castleford > ‘Mary Pannall’ > ‘Peckfield Bar’ > ‘HookMoor’ > Aberford > ‘Bramham Crossroads’ > A64 > Ring-Road West > A19 (Clifton/Bootham) > GillyGate

The average speed's not that high. but I followed a learner almost all the way to/through Castleford
A tractor, along Barnsdale Bar, to the Kippax turn-off, & pottered through the splendid village of Aberford
Then queued slowly into York itself

(I've had a very similar figure, travelling via M62 > Hull > Withernsea (but that was last January)

Returning exactly the same route, barring carrying down the A1, from ‘HookMoor’, to the M62

And I believe the onboard computer like I believe politicians! The only way to do meaningful mpg is fill up to fill up at the same pump and recording mileage. Then you have a known volume of fuel and a known mileage. Rather than the guesswork that the computer is giving you.

I’ll do ‘the maths’ every so often, & generally get within a couple of MPG similarity

Just driven 200 miles along the M1 - averaged 44mpg - I'm pleased with that.

For the same trip my old Disco2 TD5 would have done 28mpg and my BMW 330D 38mpg. Jules

I have been driving my SD4 Auto exclusively in sports mode for my daily driving (hilly, stop start, sub 30mph stuff). The MPG is still only hitting 27 but better than it was and definitely using less fuel than in normal mode. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…
