Small Drip Gearbox?

Hello all

I am not an Fl2 Owner yet...

But I am about to have a look at a FL2 Tomorrow. Its a 2007 HSE with automatic gearbox. 255K KM Diesel

The current owner has had the car for 10 years and is the 3rd owner.

He basically in the year changed and modified all items preventive which may break down on a freelander..

Such as Changing the the Manifold for a jaguar Manifold ..

Break Calipers and Disc changed for a Petrol ones
Suspension Mod
Dif Mod

and a whole list of items more.

He also did oil change interval in a shorter time than advised by the manuals

He informed me that there is a small oil drip ( 1 to 2 drips per week) at the gearbox.

is this a know issue and a big concern?

many thanks

Its definitely a known issue that old cars can develop leaks. It usually means an oil seal is failing somewhere.
Where is the leak coming from ?
How much ATF is still in the gearbox ?
When was the level last checked and how many miles has it done since ?
Without more info its not possible to know how serious it is - eg how likely to cause catastrophic failure of an expensive part.

In the UK significant oil leaks are an MOT failure. Jules

If it's engine oil and it's not coming from the air pipe connections top of engine it is more than likely coming from the crankshaft seal.

Yes, you are right the oil might even be coming from somewhere other than the gearbox. Jules
