Success Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Glenn,

When you removed the Thermostat was it in pieces?

To Bleed the coolant I just drive up a steep hill so that any air will end up in the reservoir.

Take care

Paul

Hello Paul,
the thermostat was dated year=07, month=08, it was in really great condition on the inside and outside, I will find it this evening and post images, I just bled the cooling system, like a do my TR8, fill up switch on the engine let the temp needle just start to move, switch off the engine and leave for 30 mins then re check coolant level and add if needed, then repeat letting the temp needle reach half way switch off for 30 mins and recheck, one thing I did different was to remove the fuel rail rather than struggle getting the screw from pressure sensor to invert it, removing the rail was the easiest bit.
regards
Glenn

That Thermostat looks great.

Mine fell apart about 10 minutes after removal and that was 5 year ago.

How many miles are on your LR2?

The failure may be more related to operating hours (which we can aproximate by looking at miles driven)

Most of the Thermostats seem to fail near the 100,000 mile point and if we assume that the vehicle averaged 20 MPH that's about 5,000 hours

Take care

Paul

hi Paul,
54k miles( 2008 year of manufacture ), so I think from looking at the thermostat it had a lot more life left but that hose was certainly well passed it's best and it's in confined space with a lot of heat to deal with

That's amazingly low mileage for a 2008. The hose likely rotted away from lack of regular use then Laughing

Good stuff, I am kind of partial to my 2008 which I bought in 2018 with 150,000 kms on the clock.

Glenn and Motion,

My LR2 is my first Land Rover and I do like it.

I've owned it since new.

And based on the data point provided by Glenn I won't replace my Thermostat for the second time until I get above 200,000 mile.
My first Thermostat was replaced around 100,000 miles and it was new in 2007 or 2008 just like Glenn's

The failure mode appears to be related to Run Time and not Calendar Time.

This is really good to know.

I am keeping my Land Rover until they outlaw Gasoline and force all of us to stop using internal combustion engines.

Take care

Paul

Not that i have any related issues right now with my LR2, but i just read through this entire thread, and honestly, i am feeling really confident about when i will need to embark on this. Mine is at 37k miles ... long way ahead i hope.

I must say that Paul is a walking LR2 encyclopaedia.

I got my LR2 2008 Model in 2012, and yes, i have enjoyed it for the past 11yrs and counting.
Had some electrical issues in the beginning, the reason i joined this forum, until i added the extra earth strap and replaced the kickstarter. Thanks to this forum.

Great job Paul, great input from all members too.

Appreciated.

Thanks for the kind words.

My 2008 LR2 is my first LAND ROVER.

It is a very good vehicle.

Enjoy yours.

Take care

Paul

PS my Daughter is away at University and she has the LR2 with her. I did ride with her in the LR2 on move in day and the Land Rover has a lot more miles left in her. To quote an American Poet "The woods are lovely dark and deep but I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep" ............don't worry the LAND ROVER will get you there.
