Weird fuel guage issue

Driving home on the highway last night, the fuel guage in my LR2 was acting awfully strange. Out of nowhere, the fuel guage started dropping all the way to empty. The low fuel light chimed and the range on the on board computer dropped from around 150 miles all the way to 4! After about 30 seconds, it started climbing slowly all the way back to 3/8 full and ~150 mile range?

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm hoping it's just a fluke and not the indications of a larger problem.

Probably a faulty connection or feeler or something. Nothing critical but annoying.
On my old car I had this problam if it was standing too long in damp environments or it rainded very heavily.
Never bother to fix it, but if you still have warranty get it fixed anyway, Otherwise there's no real hurry and you can monitor if the fault is persisitent.

Fuel Gauge Issues

My 2007 SE experienced similar problems but then decided to shut the engine down when the tank showed one quarter full. My dealer had the vehicle for 3 weeks and replaced the wiring to the senders and both lift pumps. This was supposed to fix the problem but didn't and Land Rover technical finally got involved. After replacing the instrument pack they thought he problem was once again resolved. It wasn't and the vehicle went back for another 2 weeks in the shop. Again it was thought to be fixed but stopped whilst the service manager was using it. They finally changed the CJB (central junction box) which I was told is an electronic box of tricks whose job also includes converting the signals from the tank senders. It seems from my discussions with many Land Rover service staff that a small number of vehicles have experienced problems with the gauage readings and there are 2 recommended fixes from Land Rover.
One is to replace the wiring on the senders and check the plugs on the wiring. If this doesn't work they replace the senders and lift pumps.
Best of luck in getting the matter sorted.

In two different occasions I start my car and then the fuel low level LED went on with the fuel gauge showing empty. By stopping the engine and starting it again the problem disappeared. When my car went to the garage for service and after informing the dealer about this problem they told me that they would download an update for solving this problem.

I had the same thing as Chris P happen once. The tank was full so I realised it was just a CG in my system Whistle Turned off the engine and started it again and all was fine again Thumbs Up Been fine since Very Happy 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Has anyone experienced this same issue combined with others simultaneously?

Last night driving through the rain, the rear parking sensors went off continuously (steady sound not the beeping) regardless of the fact that I was driving on. I figured it might have been something to do with the rain.

This evening drove to the petrol station (no parking sensor issues), filled up the tank to 3/4, drove back home. Parked the car. All was well.

Came back to it 20 min later and on starting it, rear wiper goes off on a frenzied mission and the fuel gauge drops right down to empty. Switched off the car and removed the key hoping this would fix it . Counted to 10, switched car back on and although the rear wiper was motionless, fuel gauge was still at zero. 2 minutes later the rear wiper woke up and this time even after switching the car off, removing the key, locking the car it still kept going... Big Cry

Anyone have a clue what this might be? Sad Question

Try to find from the owners handbook the fuse which is responsible for the rear wiper and remove it. Put it back to see if the problem is still there. If yes, remove the fuse again and take it to the dealer.

Thanks for that!
Removed the blue fuse for the rear wiper and that seemed to fix the fuel gauge issue but obviously no rear wiper, put it back and wiper went nuts again. Off to the dealer first thing tomorrow morning.

I had the same issue this morning on my way to work. It was very strange. First time I stopped and turned the engine off and it came back fine. Then driving along it did it a couple more times but came back on its on and once i'd got onto the motorway didn't see it again.

So is it a faulty wire or just a software update thats needed? I guess a trip to the dealers in any case.
