Engine whine - matching revs and present when stationary.

Hi all,

Another day, another issue!

I have been noticing a whine from the engine that seems to be getting progressively worse and is very noticeable now.

There is a whine from the engine that increases in pitch as the revs increase and seems worse when the car is hot. It happens even when the vehicle is stationary, so I can rule out diffs etc. and its not related to the lock on the steering.

Would anybody have any idea what it might be? I'm guessing maybe a bearing on something.

Many thanks,

Tom.

I would start by removing the auxiliary belt and see if the noise goes away. Then its a process of elimination. Just did my alternator pulley that way. Was able to just replace the freewheeling pulley with the alternator still on the car. Good luck

First thing I would check: Turn off the aircon. Does it still make the noise?

If no, then there's a good chance your condensor has sprung a leak and your a/c is spinning on near empty, which makes them very noisy.

If no change when turning off the a/c, next thing I would check would be tensioner on the aux belt. Current driveway contents:
