thanks Phil,

well the strangest items came out of the hole in the block for LR001442 - Coolant Hose for heat exchanger, when I put the new hose with its sealing ring into the block, it did not sit flush to the block, so I removed the new hose and inserted my finger to find what was in there and I removed 2 old sealing washers that were really crusty, I will also post pictures of the old LR001442 - Coolant Hose for heat exchanger which shows a very bloated hose that had a split so I am assuming that was cause of the coolant loss, back to changing loads of hoses before manifold goes back on

I thought I would share the images of the hose LR001442 removed today,

1/ old and new side by side

3/ old hose with sealing ring attached and the 2 additional rubber rings from inside the block
( these 2 additional rings were very crusty.

the plastic end of the hose that has the rubber sealing ring has a lip of smaller diameter that these extra rubber rings will fit on, the car has about 54k miles( 2008 year of manufacture ) so I am assuming this is the first change of thermostat and hoses so could these extra rings have been a factory fit, the parts manual as far as I can see does not show these extra rings?
anyone seen them before

just seen your link to the picture, so where would I get the smaller diameter rubber seal from the 2
I removed were very hard ?

Hello Paul,
I have those 2 part numbers
30713530..........LR001424..........Coolant pipe Oil cooler to Block

31109235..........LR001505..........O-ring for 1442 pipe

and was ready to fit them until I removed those 2 extra rings from the block, that look to fit on the very tip of the plastic end of hose LR001424, which is a smaller internal diameter to LR001505, when both are fitted its like a double seal in the block

You have all the parts you need

Don’t reinstall the broken bits put them in the BIN


Two things happen over time

1. The end of the 1404 breaks off

2. The O-ring gets hard and no longer is readily identifiable as a O-ring

It is possible that someone before you left behind the broken 1404 and O-Ring
In that case you will have 4 parts for the BIN

The important step is to install the 1505 on to the end of the 1404. My memory says that it was a stretch fit.

If I find a picture with the O-ring installed I will post it here

If you look at the old part you will see that the end is broken off and that broken piece and a very hard O-ring are what you found.

Thanks Paul,
that makes sense, as there are not many i6's in the UK, info what's meant to be correct is hard to find, I will post images of the other coolant hoses as I change them, I forgot to mention that my i6 is a Jap import I bought over 3 years ago so no issues with rust.

Hello Paul,
I have another ask, when standing in front of the engine, there a 2 connectors that are removed from the left hand side of the inlet manifold in the task, one connector has 3 wires Green, blue/slate, black/blue and the other connector looks to have 3 black/blue wires.

Not sure which connector plugs downward into visible socket and which goes into the horizontal socket hidden from view, could have a look at your i6 please

The connectors are keyed to prevent mixing them up.

Sorry for the late reply. Lately the LR2 is being used by my Daughter. So it is hard to to just run out to the Parking Lot at work and take a picture. Even when I get back home the Lr2 is often away somewhere.

Hello Paul,
many thanks for the info, since I have found a LR2 workshop manual to down load, the figures are the same as yours, its all done now car running, just had to top up the coolant a few times as the air pockets were released, I do think the engineers could designed a better setup with respect to the cooling as nothing is accessible without a strip down of the inlet manifold, all the parts replaced including the thermostat had an 07 date so it's lasted 15 years (52k miles) did all of it
in 25deg C - 32deg C temperatures not a pleasant task, thanks for all the support over the last few days
