I thought I read somewhere that Ford had no intention to produce a RHD version. Which would be a shame - I think it looks good Jules

Does seem a bit pointless as the new Defender looks nothing like the last generation Defender.

I fully agree with that decision, as it is a Business Decision, not a Political Decision.
Nothing to do with Brexit.

I don't remember this amount of fuss being made when JLR decided not to build the new Defender in the UK.

As Sir Jim says below, Brexit played it's part in this 'business' decision.

Fortunately in my early sixties with a fairly new DS that I am very happy with I don't think I will be buying a new car again.
If the DS is stolen/wrecked I would probably seek out a pre-DPF Freelander 2 and run it for as long as Diesel and spares availability would allow, purely because they are so simple, reliable, and there are an awful lot of independents who will be able to fix the stuff that I will not be able to physically manage anymore - the days of whipping the engine out in the street in front of our house are slowly coming to an end. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Like many on here, I'm keeping the FL2 for as long as I can. For a 6 year old car it's proving to be reliable and inexpensive to run, so far.

If the Grenadier turns out to be reliable then it may prove to be a viable product. But the competition from the like of Toyota etc will be very tough.
I think JLR have now moved away from the utilitarian market. Jules

Final seen a Grenadier for myself and first thing that struck me was its size, as been said before definitely bigger than you expect it to be.
Boot floor must be near 3 ft high thou nice size and I liked the barn doors.
Fair climb into drivers seat, floor there about 2 ft up (not ideal as I'm walking wounder with foot injury at present)
The footrest for driver (RHD) does seem intrusive and I'm not a tall man. Being automatic can move seat back that helps but time would tell if that was an issue, will be for some. Definitely seemed more restrictive that the Freelander 2 and I would need time with it to gauge of would be a problem on longer drives.
Quick look underneath and all very solid and strong looking thou steering damper does look ripe for a rock strike or similar if not careful. Can tell it isn't designed to be the ultimate off roader though, to many things having down low (relatively speaking, plenty of clearance for most use) but rather more a off road capable work truck. And by truck I mean it very much felt like one (haven't driven yet mind) and looked it underneath.

Overall I liked it a lot and would love one in future, probably not the most sensible replacement for the Freelander but a refreshing change from pretty much anything else out there.
