Hey folks. Got a 2014 SD4 auto and have noticed what feels like a rumble/judder at one point on my journey each day. It is always at a very tight hairpin bend, which is a steep slope. To get down and round I take it slowly but have to have the steering quite tight and use the brakes so it doesn’t run off.

My late Mrs , used to ride the brakes everywhere in the auto Freelander , we lived in Calderdale where 50% of your journey was downhill no matter where you went ! . The simplest way to avoid the car running away is to approach steep descents using Command Shift Mode , shift to a low gear for the descent , then knock the stick back to auto when you’ve made the descent . Mine often judders in multy story car parks when wet, I find switching to GGS mode stops it.

I wouldn’t describe the noise that ABS makes as a judder. Much higher frequency. |

Well I did as suggested and got round the bend without braking. No judder. So definitely braking related. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

You didn't brake though the car may have done, the Freely's stability program is almost or maybe second to none, you really have to do stupid things at very high speeds when cornering to lose it, it just sorts things out by braking various wheels to enable the steering lock demand to followed. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

No, but it depends on your speed and the direction of the bend, if you brake then both front wheels brake, if the stability program brakes then it's on one, so you need to take the bend both ways to determine whether it's braking or even a road problem. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I see what you mean, however I don’t think it’ll be possible to test that as the corner is on a steep gradient so testing it the other way would be going uphill and the road is wider at that part. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

From looking at the 'streetview' of corner I am sure that it would be quite easy to offload the inner wheel(s) as you turned in and braked on the corner. As MartynB says the easiest way to keep control down any steepish hill is to use 'Command Shift' and use engine braking to take strain off brakes, and stopping ABS needing to interfere. Seagull has an interesting idea, I too have found that in the worse wet weather using 'Grass,Gravel,Snow' mode and command shift gives you the complete (manual box like) control, with permanent engine braking, that you need on the twisty, undulating, backroads across the Cotswolds. If you think back to when the Freelander 2 was a current vehicle , and LR dealerships were the predominant suppler , purchases of new or used vehicles would always see the issue of a coupon for a half day at a LandRover Experience . We got one and chose to do the training in a Fl2 ( equipped with 19” drug dealer tyres ) . You got 2 hours on the test track and 2 on the road , with a LR driver instructing .
