Quite correct Jules - I just googled the part number and all results showed "with pump". Well worth the mystery shopper approach though. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

So have discussed the issue with the garage. They have apologised for the mistake and have offered to take the car back for a refund.

Apologises are worthless without action.

The issue I have is that the water pump is not a service item, nor was it due to be changed even if it was. My only argument is that I was told it was done and it was not. They have followed the rules and offered me a refund.

You're quite right, it's best practice to replace the pump, but not essential.

Not so long ago ( or was it) I remember the general recommendation for a water pump change was every second belt, the belts were changed at 60,000 miles. I wonder if a pump were to fail what would be the warning signs a leaky shaft seal, noise maybe. Personally I wouldn't risk it but there again I would do the work myself. |

I think you would struggle to find a professional workshop to replace the water pump without replacing the timing belt and offer any sort of warranty on their work. |

Usually a pump will leak a bit before catastrophic failure. That's in general, no experience with the TD4. |
