Your explanation of the VIN coding is both credible and convincing ... however that does not make it any more appealing in the real world. Here, the owner should have free access to full control over all elements of the vehicle's components. Should this be by a freely issued code from the manufacturer upon proof of ownership, or not, could be a matter for debate. But free uninhibited access should be the owners right. These restrictive practices should be illegal.

As for SDD being able to overwrite an existing VIN in the ABS Brake Control Module, I would be delighted if you could prove that my failure to do this was due to operator error - in my opinion that is more than possible.

When you used SDD to set up a replacement module, what option did you use?
I've found the CONFIGURE NEW MODULE option works for a second hand ECM, which the LR dealer told me it wouldn't work but it did. I was even able to configure the incorrect Stop Start ECM to my vehicle and it still worked. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Well done with those successes. When I tried it, I also used the Configure New Module route, but it wasn't having it. I tried several times without any joy, that's when I gave up and sent it to ControlUnits.

Ah yes, the good old ABS issue. If you look back, you can see the process I had to go through to get the system to recognise the new unit - get it "virginalised" and then re-programmed as a new module via SDD. Once this was done all should have been well, except it isn't quite. If your problem is the same as the one I have now - ABS locking on one side until stationary - then I'm afraid I can't help, as I've just lived with it and could not be bothered to investigate further. Sometimes life is just too short, and motivation too scarce.

Just a heads up for everyone, using GAP IID with the help of Patrick, we have managed to mate a used/replacement ABS to a FL2 / LR2 with VIN SALFA2BD9BH###### and make it start this week.
Just make sure numbers / marks of existing ABS and used ABS are the same.
I dont work for GAP ... I do run a LR independent shop.

I just wanted to share this since I've gotten a lot of valuable info in this forum and I thought I'd do my part and share this info for those who are and will encounter the same problem.

ive never had to code an ABS pump but have successfully replaced a TCM module with a used one and SDD coded it no problem it did take about an hour but worked perfectly using configure New Module SDD did ask for the old TCM Module to be connected first though Maybe this is where you went wrong perhaps you should have tried configure new module with old ABS pump connected first ?
