Me Again!!!

Hello again folks. After many months of my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, I cannot escape the feeling of missing my FL2. I want a D4, but in reality that is financial suicide so think going back to an FL2 is a happy medium. Needs to be as new as possible and an automatic and HSE.

Found this one, local to me. Is this good value? Also, can you stream music via Bluetooth?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202301213466933

And yes I am considering going from a reliable 21 plate PHEV to an older diesel. Call me mental.

Cheers FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Streaming Bluetooth - yes you can.
That's a nice looking example but big money for a 9 year old car. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

It is big money but might that equate to a better example? Or is it just too much? FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

They will sell it for what they think they can get irrespective of whether its a good car.

As always its buyer beware.
Go in with the thought that it is bag of nails that has been tarted up and prove to yourself that it is not.
Its obviously being towing something, but what ? A boat maybe with the rear being dunked in sea water ?
Check subframes especially the rear.
Look for repair & respray evidence Jules

Your talking similar money to an early Discosport with the 2.2 diesel, I know you had a DS with the ingenium engine but the 2.2 is the one to have imo.Our DS has had a couple of issues with the silly self opening tailgate and a parking sensor and a snapped front coil spring in the nearly two years we've had it, if you plan on longterm ownership I think the DS would get my vote. Ours will probably be the last Landrover we own as the newer ones aren't without issues and we're unwill to Pcp/lease or have an ingenium engined LR.Plan is this spring to clean the underside of the DS and get plenty of rustprotection applied and hopefully it should last a good few years. Our DS isn't a million miles away from a SD4 Fl2 driving experience to be completely honest, it's got some Yokohama AT''s fitted which really suit the cars driving style. Are you not a fan of the Mitsubishi Hybrid experience?

That’s a good point about the DS.

Here’s the thing. I’m a fussy sod and there’s something about the FL2 that I just haven’t found in any other car. My GS was a little low spec and now that I’ve driven automatic I couldn’t go back to a manual, hence an auto HSE being ideal. My GS made me smile every time I sat in it

The Outlander PHEV is a lovely car. Not been without it’s issues, such as needing a new head unit (under warranty) and one million rattles from the interior. But it is dull. The battery suits my daily drive, but I’ve noticed I’m still using more petrol in the winter than during the summer due to using the heater.

I don’t need the off-road ability very often, but the few times I’ve needed it since having the Outlander, I’ve felt wary knowing how much battery there is to get wet if I wade, whereas I never felt like that in the FL2.

Every time I pass an FL2 or a D4 I get that yearning. It’s sad really, but it is what it is. I’m just at a point where I want to sod it. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

I did want a D4 myself but the mechanic who looks after our LR works for LR and said to avoid as they really aren't without their issues. After the three FL2's we had which were all spot on for reliability I just couldn't gamble on a D4.I loved my old SD4 FL2 and my wife's TD4 was coming up for changing so we went down the route of a 6 year old DS with 48k on and fsh, tbh I missed the FL2 at first but the DS is a worthy replacement and being the HSE has all the toys you need (and some you don't, daft auto tailgate), but being the rare 2.2SD4 auto it's certainly a better bet than an ingenium engined one. We've had no issues DPF wise but it is run on BP Ultimate fuel as my old FL2 was and gets an oil and filter change every six months irrelevant of what mileage it had done (generally about 4k) , possibly overkill but for £70 peace of mind. It's getting it's belts and waterpump done soon which will be around £300, it had a new battery and discs and pads fitted by the garage we got it from so should be good for a few years yet.The only thing I want to get done is the electric steering motors are prone on early DS and evoques but that is covered by LR on a fix on fail basis. If you have anymore questions on the DS feel free to ask.

Scotland 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Baltic Blue

Just sold our 2.2 DS after 3 years

In that time:

GSM packed up
Radiator sprung a leak
Transfer case seal leaked
Rear Haldex leaked
Various infotainment lockups
Rattles from rear seats
Water ingress into boot wiring harness and latch
Keyless entry was very temperamental

No different to any other JLR product Laughing

Seems a lot of money, although it is a dealer. Mines a year older and would think myself very lucky to get over £10k for it.

Seems a lot of money, unless it has a full service history AND a rock solid WARRANTY.

I suggest that you try to find a very late HSE LUX or METRO (also with good warranty) for that sort of money, even if you have to search a little further afield. --- I had mine delivered from a LR Dealer more than 200 miles away.

Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

For that money I'd want a HSE Lux or Metropolis - mine cost me that much two years ago with 64,000 miles on the clock.
The one you have there is a nice looking car - but it doesn't have Xenon lights - you'll regret buying one without - it would certainly be a deal breaker for me.

Worth noting the important comment about lights.

Late model FL2s (apart from HSE LUX and METRO) have rubbish lights. especially on main beam. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

You live nearby in Scottish terms, it's in Kirkcaldy so basically it's a long drive to the end of a road, i.e off the beaten track, so a fairly large discount should be available, I think he's a home trader so if he rents his house there's no come back he's gone, as Ian says there are cheaper equivalent cars on the market £3 grand cheaper. Just because it's low mileage it doesn't mean it's a good buy, there's a lot that can go wrong with a car that's barely used, could be a mileage built up with a lot of 2 mile runs, DPF problems glazed bores, I could go on. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.
