Do faulty glow plugs actually show a fault code? The best I can do with my GAP IID tool is read the live values and status for the relay and the dash display. There is no fault code appearing - which may of course mean all is well! This morning (-5C) I connected the GAP Tool before starting the car and with the live values showing at start-up I didn't see any change in status to any of the Glowplug values. It started on the second attempt. Pic from yesterday, but the same today at colder temps. You shouldn't put your foot straight on the clutch without allowing the system check to complete anyway. Starting before the system check has finished is the reason there will be loads of random codes. If it's very cold, I give mine a double blast of the plugs, but as to how much difference it makes I can't be certain. The TD5 Disco 2 was a 5 cylinder diesel with only 4 glowplugs. A 5th one would have been impossible to remove with the engine in place. It started Ok in all weathers. The only reason I had a Kenlowe Hotstart system was so that I had warmth inside and a way to clear the windscreen as the engine took ages to warm up at idle and I couldn't see to drive anywhere. I always start by pressing the start button and let the car go through the set up procedure.

It takes 4 seconds for the system check to complete, which isn't even enough time to put the seat belt on while waiting. Waiting until it's finished will prevent large amounts of code being generated, especially missing module data type codes. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I wonder if they vary in the time taken for the system check? My front passenger seat air-bag sensor indicates a fault if I start it up before the symbol on the dash goes out. That symbol goes out after about 15 seconds on mine. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Thanks. But I think you are saying you can see the status of the two values (just as I think I am) rather than there actually being a fault code that would show up when the reader lists the faults? I'm struggling to find a glowplug fault code in the manual. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

When I changed my glow plugs last year, all 4 were dead, but no codes found using JLR SDD |

Thanks. I've seen a suggestion elsewhere that the Fault Codes only show on the very earliest of FL2 models and possibly gone by the MY2010 model.

I had starting issues with my last Freelander. I changed the battery, glow plugs, and changed the contacts in the starter motor but it still took a long time to start. As has been said previously the cure was to change the starter motor for a recon item, only £89 exchange from EBay. What a difference, Start Stop that had never worked before seemed to be on all the time after that. |
