Well after the drama of the last caravan trip this one is going more smoothly. 530ish miles and a ferry crossing have us at Abbeywood caravan club site, really handy 10 min walk to train station and a 25 min journey to Central London.
Freelander faultless this time and returning an impressive 24 mpg towing, normally 21-22 mpg with this caravan.

Time for new tyres again.
Bought this set of 18" DS alloys and tyres and have used them last 2 summers but like the look of them better than the standard 17" 6 spoke wheels that it came with. Been a big supporter of General Grabber tyres for years but their prices have gotten ridiculous recently.

So decided to look at alternatives. I like an AT tyre, live in a rural area, down a rough stone lane and would be quite prone to snow. Looks and longevity were considerations also.

Had considered Michelin Latitude Cross, Yokohama Geolander and Cooper AT2 but in the end went for these Continental Cross Contact ATRs. Online reviews are pretty good. Early days but very quiet compared to the Pirelli Scorpions that came off.

Hope to get decent mileage out of these. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The Contis should proce to be a good bet Bob , we've just put some Yokohama geolander AT's on the DS and it really has transformed the car into what it should have been all along. The ride has been smoothed out nicely even on 19" wheels and it still handles well. The price of the General Grabbers really has shot up.

As you say a milestone is it a celebration or do you have any costly heavy work planned

At 130000 I have almost done my replacements unless and I don't want to tempt the freeloader god of doom, something unexpected occurs

No, fingers crossed its all good. Turns 9 years old in 2023 but all the big 10 year service items already done.
Due a full service which I'll do in January. Had it 5 years now and will happily drive it for another 5. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

WROTE THIS IN MAY '22

Had Continental's cross contact as per original spec fitted in 2016; did 39,400 on deliberately downsized 17" wheels, across the whole of Europe, alps, Pyrenees, etc. Fantastic tyre, secure, smooth, stable. Changed them in 2019 for Pirelli all season; what a disaster. Thought there was something seriously wrong with alignment or steering mech,, had it checked three times. Car wandered all over the place with every change of road surface, potholes, white lines etc. I could even tell the sex of a dead bird! They failed MOT after 23,000 and changed back to Contis in May. What a staggering difference; the car is immediately back to it's stable, secure positive self with no wandering issues. Speak as you find by Continentals are now my default tyre.

Please can you tell me what you consider to be the 10 year old service issues?
Had it 3 years and it's been great , should see me fine until the inevitable arrival of the electric era.
Just 2 new front wheel bearings so far, plus a recent Haldex service . After the service it pulls away much more smoothly, think it may have been sticking? FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey
