Air con

Just need pointing in the right direction. Due to the somewhat warm weather we have been having it would have been nice to have a working aircon system, mine blew sort of cool. Checked low side pressure and was low so topped up. Now blows even cooler but not cold. On using the aircon switch you can hear that something is happening as engine bay note changes, not loud just noticeable. Am I looking at an iffy compressor? It is seeming to work just not very well.

well I had a similar issue a couple of years back,
had a local specialist pressure check the system
and found condenser was leaking, so replaced and
which worked really cold for a number of months although
we had noticed a sound (sort of bubbling sound)
which rose with the revs,
Pressure tests showed it was still good, with no leaks.
So my decision, I decided we would replace the Compressor.
Which has work.
A/C still good to date Thumbs Up
Condensers do rot out. He's replaced a lot over the years.
compressors occasionally fail, Mine was the second Freeland 2 he's done. DAVE.

Hi

Thanks for the reply duly noted. Though I would have thought if I had a leak, of any degree, I would on checking have found zero pressure in the system. I in fact had a pressure about half way on the guage in the low section, not accurate but a good rough estimate. Will investigate a tad more.

Regards

IIRC, mine was still passing cool air out, just not cold enough, DAVE.

I have watched my fill of videos as to how to determine if charge is good enough. So many varying thoughts on what pressure should be at a certain ambient temperature. Anyway I came to conclusion needed even more gas so put more in and now runds a bit cooler so am moving it right direction, well as far as gas concerned. Will give it a day or so then see if I need even more gas.

I must say mine was checked and worked on by a
qualified automobile Air conditioning engineer with (then) 19 years
in the trade, I'm not sure if I would fully trust a use at home kit to be accurate. DAVE.

I can only check the low pressure side.

I would take it to an air con specialist, maybe a mobile one.

Its worth checking that the blender flaps are working correctly. Jaguars use the same parts, and they have blender motor failures. THey seem to fail hot, not cold air.

Popped a bit more gas into the system brought the low pressure side up to the figure for the ambient temperature. Now blowing nice and cold, very cold.
