If you drive in London beware the Mayors new little earner

From tomorrow, motorists caught driving in cycle lanes are to be fined. This will apply to drivers who cross the solid white lines which mark out the cycle lanes. Existing cctv cameras will initially be used in ‘key locations . . . . .to deter motorists . . ‘
So presumably if you’re following someone that’s stopped to turn right, you now have to wait, rather than pass by quickly cutting in and out of a cycle lane. Well lines of waiting traffic should certainly ease traffic flow Sad
So long as I’m not impeding Larry Lycra in getting to that next red light (which he’ll ignore) that new rules fine by me

It is running as a Trial period first. Drivers will be notified of any wrong doing, no fines

After that trial period, fines will be issued of £160, £80 if paid sooner.

as I understand it.

Sad really as what happens in London eventually happens Up North.
I can't see why politicians are hell bent on pitting Larry Lycra against every other road user - including pedestrians.
Wait a minute of course Larry Lycra doesn't have a number plate so he can ride on the pavement and jump the lights with impunity. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Do the cyclists get fined if they cross the line the other way? Common sense isn't very common.

Quite right too,
If it is part of a number of mistakes then it must be a fail. DAVE.

I don't believe so, as the code of practice clearly states that cyclists are not obliged
to use the cycle paths ,lanes or ways,
Unless london has it's own ruling. DAVE.

Does this mean that the Freelander 2 is becoming the new SAAB?
You know what I mean, SAAB drivers are seen as the sensible ones, the ones you wish your daughter would marry.

Or does it mean that the forum members are just generally laid back, and can see banter for what it is?
