Around my area the government cutbacks have meant that street cleaning has almost ceased.

Perhaps we should all now ask for road sweeping to become a health issue as I am sure that passing traffic not only drops more tyre rubber but also disturbs any that is already deposited in the vehicles wake.

The build up of street debris is gradually getting worse, and every passing vehicle is helping it into our lungs. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

The difference between tyre particulates when compared to diesel particulates is size.
A tyre particle is larger and heavier than a diesel particle, so it settles to the ground faster, and can't enter the blood stream like the ultra fine particles of diesel soot which readily enter the blood stream.
Sure there is an issue with tyre particulates, but it's not just BEVs that are heavy, all modern vehicles are almost twice the weight of an equivalent vehicle of 20 years ago.  Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I agree in spite of engines getting smaller and a lot of plastic replacing metal.

Yes one of the reasons for making cars bigger is to increase occupant safety as these features take up space and/or need space to function correctly.
Another reason is that average people size is way up.

My 2019 Fiesta ST is not only larger than the previous Fiestas its also heavier and wider than the 1999 MK1 Focus (1205 kg vs 1068kg, 1735 vs 1698mm) and its only 54mm shorter than the original Focus. Jules

They didn’t even get near an EV, all it did was prove that heavier vehicles wear their tyres faster….who knew?  Regards

Shoes soles wear out much quicker these days.

Don't know what is worse, shoe soles or bike tyres which have a higher load per square cm (or the Borris inch) compared to vehicles. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Unfortunately the truth is even EVs are highly damaging to our world, the sheer volume of vehicles is the main problem not whether you drive a battery or ICE.
Remember the data produced when it was covid shutdown and the improvement to the air quality due to cars being off the road?
The answer is probably reduced vehicle use coupled with replantation of trees in Scotland
