Car tyres produce vastly more particle pollution than exhausts

Around my area the government cutbacks have meant that street cleaning has almost ceased.

The difference between tyre particulates when compared to diesel particulates is size.

I agree in spite of engines getting smaller and a lot of plastic replacing metal. |

Some of that is going to be caused by the pollution abatement equipment and all the passenger and pedestrian safety equipment that is built in to vehicles now! |

Yes one of the reasons for making cars bigger is to increase occupant safety as these features take up space and/or need space to function correctly.

Yes we under-estimate the potential health hazards from surface particulates being made airborne by vehicle movement. Around Chernobyl there has been an increase in radiation levels caused by vehicles moving over land not touched since the reactor meltdown. Jules |

Unfortunately the article is boll0cks as all they did was load a Mercedes saloon up with 500kg of ballast to do the test.

Unfortunately the truth is even EVs are highly damaging to our world, the sheer volume of vehicles is the main problem not whether you drive a battery or ICE.

But it does highlight the unseen significant pollution from tyre wear. There is no such thing as a non-polluting car, some are less polluting than others - none are green IMO Jules |
