2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver
Service regime

Due to heavy rain and a preference for my armchair I thought I ask this Q on here:

What is the service interval's in the UK for the Freelander 2? I'm imagining every 10k miles or 12 months? New: Freelander2 GS 62 plate (MY13) - Santorini Black with Clearview & Front PDC
Old: Freelander2 XS 09 Plate - Zermatt Silver with ST3 remap (eco map), Garmin 1490T Sat Nav, Rear Seat Entertainment kit

Does it affect your warranty if you don't have it serviced in 12 months, even if you have only done 11k?

I am surprised that a modern vehicle actually needs to be serviced so frequently; I thought the up-to-date way of doing it is to let the car tell you when it needs one like Audi do

Yes, it would affect your warranty. You also get a service indicator on your dash display, counting down when its close to due (nothing fancy, I think it's just based on time, and not how the vehicle is used).
Some manufacturers have moved to 'intelligent' service intervals where the car decides based upon driving styles. As for 'modern' cars requiring less servicing, tell that to an Mitsu Evo owner Surprised Phil

i believe +/- 1000 miles to keep your warranty in place

(Obviously check with your local LR dealer and/or manual as you could loose your warranty by been late or early) Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

@Lukey Luke

the service was done at the only remaining LR dealer in Luxembourg city.

everything was ok, the usual replacements:
front wipers
oil
oil and air filters
etc.

nothing special... but I wasn't informed about software updates or any other problems if there were any.

I asked my dealer about tolerance of mileage around the service interval, they said +/- 1000 miles no problem.

My service warning has just come on indicating next service is due in 525 miles, so time to book my 4th service (60k miles!)

At risk of opening up a can of (oil) worms, one feature of flexible servicing is usaully the use of the very highest specs of oil. The Land Rover spec for oil does not require the all singing and dancing high spec synthetics, I guess thats one reason why they require service at 12,500 miles. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

Sounds like I also need to check the tolerance around the 12 months; I am a little loathed to have it serviced at only 11k miles so if I could stretch another month it would help.

I always do a checkup just before going on vacation as I would hate a problem ruining it for me. Also at the beginning of winter I just drop the car off for a quick check as there may be some fluid changes needed.

In my experience this results in a good engine even after severeal years.

My previous car was a peugeot 306 convertible and always when a dealer asks me how long did I drive before a certain part needed replacement he was surprised.
Last replacements were clutch cable, window motor and the motor for the automatic roof recliner. These things according to my dealer should have been broken at around 60.000 kms at which apparently most things should have been broken. It serviced me +200.000kms with only minor non critical problems. The engine is still dry which is rare for this car. According to the specs it had to be serviced around 15.000 kms to 20.000 kms but I service it at 7500 to 10.000 max and with a summer and winter check-up.
My wife is driving it now, but we're looking to replace it with a used, well priced, good looking, not to old and with not too much mileage on it... MX5.

The service indicator is quite clever. When you are getting "close" to service, it tells you the miles to go to service and the days; when the mileage goes over, the displayed number goes negative.

Do check the tolerances as I thought it was 500 miles on distance but no idea of time tolerance. It has to be done as the oil picks up moisture for one thing so it's definitley distance rot ime whichever comes first.

If you want a watertight warranty, you have to follow all the LR rules or they will try and wriggle out of it, e.g. my second Disco had corrosion seeping through one of the rear window frame corners and this was rejected as a warranty claim becuause the last service before the end of the 3 years was an interim one (oil and filter and little else) and I did it so the service record was not "fully stamped up by a dealer". Beware. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
