Due to heavy rain and a preference for my armchair I thought I ask this Q on here:

Does it affect your warranty if you don't have it serviced in 12 months, even if you have only done 11k? I am surprised that a modern vehicle actually needs to be serviced so frequently; I thought the up-to-date way of doing it is to let the car tell you when it needs one like Audi do |

Yes, it would affect your warranty. You also get a service indicator on your dash display, counting down when its close to due (nothing fancy, I think it's just based on time, and not how the vehicle is used).

I asked my dealer about tolerance of mileage around the service interval, they said +/- 1000 miles no problem.

Sounds like I also need to check the tolerance around the 12 months; I am a little loathed to have it serviced at only 11k miles so if I could stretch another month it would help. |

I always do a checkup just before going on vacation as I would hate a problem ruining it for me. Also at the beginning of winter I just drop the car off for a quick check as there may be some fluid changes needed.

The service indicator is quite clever. When you are getting "close" to service, it tells you the miles to go to service and the days; when the mileage goes over, the displayed number goes negative.
