Trip or not to Trip

What's the thought out there about trip meters?
I usually zero the trip every time i fill up.
Have seen some comments about not zeroing the trip as it could affect the reading of your MPG.
Does starting from zero each time give the computer a false start or should i just leave the trip to keep recording?
I am averaging 26/28 as most of my mileage is local with some long runs.
Tomorrow i have a 120 mile round trip, mainly on motorway.
Should i just leave the trip or start from zero? Really want to see in excess of 30mpg. Jim A

never bother with mine, I presume you mean the one under the mileage ? Or the other one which I would reset at every fill up.

Mixed driving, car shows 35.1 mpg at the moment, which is a surprise. Must be the warmer weather down here. . . 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

MY 2012 on has three trip meters Trip A Trip B and auto

On auto tells you MPG avarage speed Etc and zeros when ignition is turned off.

Trip A records the same but you have to zero it yourself.

Trip B records as above and will continue to record even if you zero trip A so giving you a complete breakdown of what you are doing.

I zero mine if I fill it for a long journey, but don't bother if I'm only doing local trips, with £25 top ups each week.

We drove from Cornwall to Sussex over Easter, where it returned a pleasant 37 MPG. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Similarly
I zeroed Trip B soon after buying my FL2 and leaving it running, so I have a record of MPG etc since I bought it.
I zero Trip A each time when I fill up, so it is recording that tankful.

For the curious amongst you my Trip B reads 34.2 mpg at an average of 31mph, after some 44,000 miles. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I leave mine on auto which shows each journey. Towing the caravan on Monday it was showing 21 🤪
On a relaxed motorway trip yesterday it was showing 39.
The A and B trips are around 33 - 34 which is probably realistic.
Not brilliant with current fuel prices but I console myself that I only have an 18 mile round trip commute to work these days. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

On my ancient 2007 GS when I zero the trip the mpg is also reset. It takes about 35 miles before I get a believable mpg and I understand that the computer then displays the average for the last 35 miles or so. I just use it as an indicator and use an app to calculate actual mpg, which is currently over 33mpg over 76000 miles travelled.

You will get ever increasing rounding errors.

I simply started jotting down the data on the back of the receipt when we fill up, only takes a brief moment. Started when I first got this car & have been doing it ever since.

I don't do it the see how efficiently we are driving. It was more about how much we were spending on holidays as a whole, especially when we do 15,000km on a short trip. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Can I say that I have a spreadsheet for all my fuel purchases.
Always fill to brim and record mileage.
First car with an mpg readout and I enjoy watching the figures.my last fill up gave me 27.45 mpg.
Hoping for better. After 17 years on zDisco 1 and 2 27 is good. Jim A

Well, best figures so far.
110.3. Miles. 37.6 mpg.
Fuel figures would have been better but for being stuck in local road works which too 8 minutes to get through.
Then a 4 mile crawl on the M8 homeward bound.
90% on motorway.
Quite happy . Jim A
