Hi all,

Got some nasty rust that i want to sort (photos hopefully attached). Has anyone had something like this repaired before?

Or does anyone have an idea of what cost i should be looking at for this? Going in blind on price and i do not want to pay way over.

Love this car but there is always somthing that needs sorting haha

Similarly, I can see that my wheel arch trims are starting to come away at the edges, exposing the paintwork around the wheels, and distorting the outer door-seal and allowing dirt into the area at the bottom of doors.
I will need to do some cleaning, tidying up and look into finding some edging as mentioned in some of this post and others in main search.

Had mine done about 9 months since cost £700 it was someone I know that has a small body shop
He made a good job but it was mainly so it was fit to sell and its now gone and been replaced by a 5 years younger model

Got a few quotes now, from 750ish to 1500ish. For the same level of work.

Going to go ahead and get this done. Next job will be to make sure the underside is all protected. Seen some good suggestions on here about that.

Thanks Deano. Seems a great price to give it a go with. I will order some now.

No problem I think I ordered 4 or 5 metres of it and then cut it to the same length as the originals. I then put a bit of grease on the wheel arch lip ( after cleaning them) and pushed the trim on. Seems fine 2 0r 3 years later and hasn't blown and expanded like the original did

The OEM strips have an internal metal strip which is exposed at the cut ends and, not surprisingly, rusts inwards causing the rubber to expand and loose contact with the arch. Poor design really. Jules

Saw this problem mentioned, I think during the COVID restrictions, so I've been keeping an eye on mine.
Sure enough, like every other common problem that the Freelander II succumbs to, it came to me!
I spotted it back in November but couldn't be without the car until now.
Just had it done, guys said caught it at 'just the right time', both sides done £650.

They did say it was common on both the Freelander & Discovery and they have had to cut away and reweld panels in before.

Bit of an update. I have worked on the passenger side myself. Only surface rust that I could find. Ground it all back and used a rust converter before paining. Just used Halfords rattle cans but happy enough with the finish. Also wire brushed and treated the surfaces in the wheel well while I had the cover off.

I did the whole length of the cills at the same time. were pretty good. only a couple of spots starting. Nice to know its been done.

I think we all need to keep an eye on this area, will certainly be checking mine tomorrow, fingers crossed.
