Anybody fitted one? I was just reading about thief's using it to program a new key, keyless entry and start systems etc. Common sense isn't very common.

Previous owner had one fitted to our car. It’s a metal shroud with a removable locked top that takes a key similar to a tool box latch.
I don’t see it stopping the car being stolen but would add time to the process if access to the OBD port was needed.

I thought when stealing cars they just cloned the key by copying the signal and drove your car off with a cloned fob. Do they require OBD access?

I took a cursory look at this and it does not appear to stop the cloning of the remote signal? Isn't that what most thieves are using now?

I'm sure there are a multitude of cars crooks will be looking to swipe before bothering with our Freelanders. I think I'll risk not buying one. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Keyless entry is the real danger, which FL2 doesnt have ie we have to press the fob button.

My Fiesta has keyless entry - you just walk up to the car and it unlocks as you simply touch the door handle because the fob is constantly transmitting a signal to the car. Its that signal which can be received by a thief close to the fob and remotely transmitted to the car to unlock it. The latest keyless fobs have motion sensors so that it stops transmitting when stationary - mine doesnt have that feature so I keep the fob stored in a faraday pouch at home.

So with the FL2 the thief needs access to the OBD socket to clone a key. Its possible on many cars to break a driver's window, reach down to the OBD socket and clone a key without getting into the car and setting the alarm off . A simple measure is to hide the OBD by moving it up behind the dash so it cant be reached from outside the car. You can then add an OBD extension cable to provide a secret OBD access for yourself - say under the carpet in the passenger footwell. Jules
