Not kidding, while a car that's five years newer probably has a slightly lower eco impact in daily operations the eco cost of creating the new car far outweighs any incremental advantage. If regulators want to fixate on something, that should be it.

It's long been established that the emmisions from manufacturing take some getting back from use of a vehicle

There will still be plenty of used diesel cars for sale in 2030, which will last at least another 12 years. At present EV's only make sense for company car drivers as they pay little or no tax on them. |

Also make sense for Motablity drivers, especially as EVs tend to be automatics.

2nd hand diesels may well be around well past 2030 and maybe even 2040..... but the fuel costs and taxation will be economically unviable for a lot of people. taxation will eventually force fossil fuels off the road, whether they are roadworthy or not. |

Before getting the ipace would see them on the road and wonder how the owners could afford them, Now i drive past fuel stations and wonder how the owners can afford it.

Interestingly, Ive just renewed my Aviva car insurance and they have now added exclusions for "automated" vehicles and for any vehicle used in an "automated driving mode".

Yep, fuel prices are going to be a really big thing for many people - with domestic gas and electricity zooming up. My electricity is up 50% and due to go up more today I believe. We have oil fired heating (no gas around here) and that hasn't gone up nearly as much as gas and electricity. By comparison to gas /electricity our cars' fuel costs have increased at a much lower rate - now costing about £1500 for the year for both of us. With the FL2 rarely doing a journey of less than 100 miles and the Fiesta ST being used for short jouneys (shopping etc). The FL2 passed 50K miles last week. Jules |

You can’t beat that for cheap motoring CG. I agree with your sentiments. I am slowly being convinced that an EV future is not all bad. Fifth Gear Recharged has changed my mind-the performance of some of the next generation EV cars is breathtaking-Tesla territory for a lot less money. |

Why is your electric going up? They are not going up until April. Have you been reading the Daily Mail too much, and need to lie down. |

Sooner rather than later once the honeymoon is over EVs will have to be taxed . Unless to meet the shortfall as an example the powers that be find a way to tax illegal dope. |
