as anyone tried repairing the throttle body by using the kit below ?

Thinking of getting one and a spare to try the repair?

I have just had a massive shock when i clicked on the link i put up, how the price as sky rocketed, from the original £27.50 to now £100 they wont sell many at that price that's for sure, contacted the seller and he says out of stock so it's that price to stop anyone ordering?

Why not just remove the listing until they are back in stock.

Now back in stock £29.99 nowt to do with me but have purchased one just in case.

No, I was tempted but needed the vehicle on the road yesterday so bought a new replacement. Having done so it is a delight to have an engine that doesn't have a tortured gerbil at the front of it and one that shuts down silently too Thumbs Up

Hi Arctic. I am afraid in my haste to clean up I took it to be re-cycled along with the service fluids and brake discs Rolling Eyes But the cogs were shredded inside, utterly bare of teeth.

I repaired the one I took off mine. It is a doddle although I had to ease out the bore of the aluminium replacement as it was too tight and seizing. I originally ordered the kit but it got delayed in international post during covid so I ordered a new one from the UK to get me going .So now I have a spare. Silver 2009 HSE

As an aside to this.
Do we actually understand why the teeth of these gears strip?
Are they designed to do that if the throttle valve gets stiff?
If that is the case, then replacing nylon gears with aluminium or brass ones is only going to lead to a more permanent failure surely. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

I would hazard a guess that when the throttle flap begins to get gummed up with oily gunk and other crusty stuff the resistance begins to wear the nylon cogs. All the more reason to either fit a breather catch can and/or run maintenance inlet cleaners from time to time.

Repaired mine using this kit, comes from Russia so takes a bit of time getting over. Mechanically fixed instead of glued (a few comments on glue failing). Just make sure the cogs are greased and slide over each other without snagging.

Just a thought but we have had six FL2s in the family and the only one that had a throttle body failure has been the 10 reg one. Is there any evidence that later models (especially post DPF 2011 versions) are less prone to this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

@dorsetfreelander following on from your post . Is it only the later (post 2012) cars that have a prolonged high pitch whine from the TB after switching off. The duration is highly variable but can go on for 5 - 10 mins. My 2014 plate FL2 has done this for 7+ years. No rattle just whine. Jules

I did read somewhere about the glue may fail, so did a glue and screw job on one i purchased recently for the job, i will post up how i did it asap.
