Excuse me if already mentioned,
but when starting are you still allowing all control units to set,
or are you straight in ie. fob in/ignition/start. DAVE.

Hi Dave

Short answer is yes

Key in
Press start button
Allow system check
Press clutch and start button and crank engine.

Don't know why but I have always done that. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I would be interested to know how to get live data in SDD also.
I don't find it an easy system to work with. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Here are figures I just took with a Nanocom that gives read out in Mpa but converted to Bar.

Engine stone cold, over 24hrs since shutdown.

Ignition on, no start = 0

Start & idle @ 800rpm = 250 Bar

1500rpm = 450 Bar

2000rpm = 600 Bar

Shutdown & fuel pressure immediately drops to 0.

My figures are virtually identical to gasmans.

Make of that what you will but I have no starting issues as far as I am concerned.

Good luck with the fault finding. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
171037Km as of 09/05/22
Superchips Bluefin Flash
Nanocom Evo II (also sold)

Hi Badger

Thanks for that information, really interesting. Thumbs Up
Some say that their engine retains some fuel pressure after shutdown and others like yourself go straight to 0.

Would be interested to know what it should be. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.

Curiouser and Curiouser!

I shall recheck my readings

Gasman when you say you have differing readings from different people does that mean they have Private Messaged you?

Here are this mornings readings using a different Code reader. Again the readings are variable in live data. So why do people report a zero pressure at cold start what am I missing.

Outside Temp is -1degC

Cold last used yesterday afternoon 340 Bar
Tickover 430 Bar
2000 Revs 810 Bar

This reader a Foxwell 510 also gives voltage readings

Fuel Rail Temperature Sensor voltage

Cold 3.31 Volts
Tickover 3.13 Volts
2000 revs 3 volts

Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor voltage

Cold 0.5 Volts
Tickover 1.37 Volts
2000 Revs 2.19 volts

The technical manual says that one of the PCV (Pressure Control Valve on the end of the fuel rail) functions is and I quote:
"during engine shutdown to progressively collapse fuel rail pressure".

And if you look closely, the return from the PCV is behind that 10 bar valve on the injectors return lines, so some pressure remains, but only on the injectors returns.
I remember a discussion on the Russian forum about the necessity of that valve on the injectors return.
Some say that it is not necessary and went up to the point of eliminating it. The result was the engine was running fine without it, but sometimes, starting was difficult.
This is why I've suggested to verify it (LR008711)... But I may be wrong...

Hi Chips
The readings I refer to are from the forum in posts. Some on this thread and some on a previous thread that run out of steam. (I will update that one if I ever get a resolution)

Alex
Thanks again for your input.
I haven't forgotten about the 10bar none return value. I don't have the equipment to test it. However I did mention this to the garage on Monday when I took the car back. I don't think they like people making technical suggestions but they appear to be struggling, therefore they said they would check it. Not sure if that means replacing it and seeing what the result is.
Would really like you to be correct and see how red faced the garage manager was. Laughing
Can't believe that they have never come across this before.

I have a second fault, Stop- Start not working. They are supposed to be looking at that also. Might just forget about that one, or I'll never get the car back. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Hi all, It’s a hell of a long topic to read through, have you tried putting your battery on a trickle charge overnight so you’ve maximum cold cranking amps CCA being delivered on start up, also is your battery the correct amp per hour, we had a snow blower doing exactly the same as your problem and it was the batteries although they were new they were not up to the mark so too much voltage drop on start up, do you think the starter could be drawing to much current when start up from cold?

Also is there a way you can get email alerts when anybody adds to the post? 👍

Called the garage yesterday for an update.
They told me that they have checked everything on the fuel system and everything is within specifications.

I asked if they have tried checking the pulse signals for the injectors, cam and crank sensors just incase the loom was faulty, or anything else.
They are going to do that today.

They have now had the car for a total of 4 weeks.

As for the battery. New one fitted back end of summer. Bosch AGM with at least the same CCA as the original.
When the car is not in use I leave it on a smart charger. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
