Starting issues

Hi
Maybe someone has experienced similar......
07 td4 manual had an intermittent starting problem(took a few attempts) for a week or so then wouldn't start at all, battery was fine, gave the starter motor a knock and fired up. OK I thought I'll try replacing the plunger and contacts, did that, started first time. Carried on starting first time everytime for a week then suddenly wouldn't start for a return journey. Lights, system checks, battery all good. Did seem like immobiliser/alarm maybe an issue as light was flashing with fob in.
Tried locking, unlocking, using key, disconnecting battery.
Then I stumbled across a solution, if I had the clutch and brake both depressed starts 1st time everytime.
Seems to me having the brake depressed is overriding something? Ideas what that is anyone?

Yet another newbie, first posting is a question. Why don't newbies introduce themselves?
Sorry, just getting old I guess

Some people just need a little help and advice with problems-particularly unusual faults like this one. There are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful members. I have had FL2’s for about 10 years now and been a Freel 2 member for a lot longer than most on here. I can’t say I mind first posts being a question👍

My advice would be to first do a hard battery reset. You can do a search of the forum for the procedure and the right steps and timing.

Yeah I will try that, have tried leaving the battery disconnected for a couple of hours though and that didn't help

The fact that it starts with both the brake and cluth pedals depressed "could" ??? and I am only guessing here be one of the switches on the pedals?

Thanks Rommell,
No stop start on this model.
It's a manual so depressing the clutch is the normal safety feature for starting but obviously pressing the brake seems to be deactivating or overiding something. I'll have another a play tomorrow....

Try connecting a second earth cable from the battery to the starter motor.

take a look at this thread.

I just want to put it out there that I’m no expert however on searching frantically when I had starting problems, it came to my attention that there is a bit of the wiring loom that runs under the airbox that due to vibrations causes the tape and then the wires to become exposed. It seems this can cause alsorts of issues such as starting problems. It could be worth checking there?
