United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Orkney Grey
Engine Management Light on

Hi everyone,

I recently had the cam belt & water pump changed on my 2014 FL2 SD4 Metropolis together with a service at a local independent garage. Exactly one week later the EML came on (steady amber) but no lack of power. I took it back to the same garage and they said it was showing an ERG valve fault and have given me a price to replace this. I googled this problem and see that many people have fitted an ERG blanking plate but just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction of how to get this fitted and will it affect the vehicle at MOT time due to the emissions not being recirculated? Also, do I still need someone to clear the fault code so that the engine light goes out or would that happen once the plate if fitted (apologies if that is a silly question but I am not very experienced with mechanical issues).

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Right direction: Search button on the top bar.
Plenty of information on here if you take the time to look...
On how to blank it, what blanking plate to put, if it's worth to do it, MOT influence, etc...

I had a similar EGR fault after Service & MOT at local garage .
A lot of the garages that say they have LR diagnostic software do not in fact have the proper software .
Usually only LR approved facility have this .

I forgot what the fault was on mine but was not the EGR valve .

Correct diagnoses is expensive but worth it to save unnecessary work and expense .

Just my opinion

I am not sure RAC have the right software
My Freelander 2 kept stopping and I called RAC who took 6 hours to arrive .
They could not find any fault and no history of previous alarm codes .
He took it for a drive and it was ok so he followed me home .
Suggested it may have been a blocked fuel filter but I told him it had only done 3k miles since it was changed .
If it had of been fuel filter with the proper software would have shown drop in fuel pressure .
Fault never occurred again to this day .

Egr blanking on an Sd4, you can't completely blank it off. Need to use the plate with hole in it. Really easy to fit, 2 bolts to undo at front of engine, access is easy. Not sure it makes much difference however. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
