as alex suggested, the wynns diesel system purge.
I will do it as well when it gets warmer outside and have more time, I am still to check if the hoses needed are 8 mm and ifother connectors are necessary.

Although I already have this product in stock: Liqui Moly, injector cleaner. Could it be okay anyway?

Have tried to find the Wynns diesel purge that Alex recommended, can't see it anywhere in the UK. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Well, just reviewing the topic, in preparation for getting the materials, some questions raised for me:

- I see in Alex's drawing that the filter in on the feed line, while all the youtubers are having it on the return from the injectors: my guess is Alex's point is not unfiltered fuel should get into the pump / injectors, so I guess those videos are just wrong.
- as connections, we have a 10 mm diameter tube as feed line, so a regular 8x10 mm transparent hose will fit without other connectors, while on the return line (8mm hose), a 6x8mm hose would fit as well without connectors.
- not really needed to connect the feed and return on the diesel filter during the procedure

- and now my tough dilemma: when connecting the transparent hose to the fuel line, the other end will go into the cleaner recipient, what about the air on the tube? how could be avoided? as I understood it is not good to have air on the fuel circuit.

As long as the hose will remain below liquid level, there will be no air in the circuit.
And if by mistake (a lot of) air will enter the circuit, this will mean, eventually, a drop in the fuel rail pressure.
The engine ECU will cut the engine's functioning when the pressure will drop below safe margins.
So, no need to worry. If it will happen, bleed the air with a hand pump and start again.
Just keep at all time the feed hose below liquid level and you'll be fine.

Well, some months later today I found some time to proceed with cleaning the injectors.
Wrong choice of day, as it was more than 35 C.
Most probably also wrong choice of tubes, probably too soft.
After running some 400 ml of the cleaner, getting it darker by each ml, engine stopped and did not start again.
Hose never went above level but I suspect some issue at the connecting point between the hose and fuel line, hose being soft lost its round shape and probably got air inside.
I decided to stop, I reconnected the diesel filter and tried twice to start, but no success.
So my fear came true, of course due to my lazy and not proper setup.

I will get myself a hand pump, however I am not sure if I got correctly the procedure and how should I get the air out.
I understand that I should connect the hand pump to the feeding connector of the diesel filter and the other connecter to the line. Still, how does the air comes out?

I know it looks stupid, but before my next wrong move, would love to get some good (detailed) advice if possible.
As I only tried to restart once with the cleaning fluid and twice with the regular diesel connection, I suppose no major damage has been done yet.

Hi connect all but the return to tank line pump from there fuel will be sucked thru filter remove air from lines in the process when fuel runs out of your hand pump line reconnect return to tank line job done
