United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Ive just bought my Fl2 this week, approved used from a LR dealer. Its on 17000 miles and came with brand new Goodyear Efficient Grips fitted all round. Spoke to the salesman about them saying surprised it had needed new tyres at only 17k. Amazingly he told me that all Approved Used LRs have to go out on new tyres and all of the same make right across their range!

Tyre life is something Im interested in. I have run GG AT2, then GGAT on my Disco 2, all running 50k plus miles.
My wife has a VW Tiguan which has GGGT fitted. First set lasted 40K.

I may well go for the BFG AT on the Freelander when needing replaced, never an option on the 18" D2 previously. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I've just done 14500 on Nokian Nfera tyres
Fronts are even at 5.5mm and rears even at 6mm

Quite impressed to be honest for budget tyres fitted by the LR dealer

IIRC, the dealers sell the cars with a min of 4mm tread on them. Sadly mine was just over and they wouldn't put new tyres on Big Cry

Just changed a set of Good Year Wranger HP All Weathers at 40,000 miles - they had just got down to 3mm.

The wifes Ds still has the original Wranglers on with 50k on them and still plenty of tread left . They will be getting changed soon due to age though for some more Wranglers.

It all depends on your style of driving & where the car is driven, a owner who drives mostly on motorways is going to get near double the mileage compared to a car that spends most of its life on country roads.

Just over 30k for a set of Wranglers they were down to nearly 4mm and starting to drone on some roads. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

42000 miles and counting on my General Grabber AT3s. They are currently at 5mm and 6mm remaining tread. I think they are a fantastic tyre for the money. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

dont AT tyres start off with about 10mm tread depth and normal summer/winter tyres start with about 8mm ?

ISTR getting about 50,000 miles out of a set GG AT2 on my first FL1, and they still had a decent amount of tread left when i sold it

I wish my FL2 had all that tread! My Father was a bit of a spendthrift with tyres on his cars. When the canvas showed, and he got a puncture, he used to take the tyres off and fix the puncture, then stick six layers of wide canvas carpet edging canvas strips to the inside of the tyre with Copydex rubber glue, and hope for another six months of use.

I am running Scorpion Verde All Seasons. So far all 4 wearing evenly . About 5mm. tread left after 24000 miles.
Now noticing considerable droning at higher speeds whereas previously very quiet. Is this a feature of these tyres?
I am really keen on quiet tyres - probably due to years of running a Defender on MTRs, so any views on the quietest all season for the Freelander2. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

It seems to be a feature of the FL2 - droning as the tyres get near the end of their life - sometimes mistaken for more serious transmission problems such as a worn rear diff. Jules

Droning on mine seems to be coming from the front. Both wheel bearings are only 2 years old so am starting to have concerns about the PTU, hopefully it will just be the tyres. Need to sort it as it's turning what was a relaxed comfortable drive into a somewhat fractious experience. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey
