Premium Fuel

Sorry if this one as been done before.
Decided to give Freeda a treat the other day and filled her up with £55+ of Shell supa dupa, reset trip and on that tank full the average mpg as risen by c3mpg. Normally get c38mpg on a mixture of A/B/C/track roads, few towns/traffic lights (so stop/start will do didley squat for me) showed just short of 41mpg. Anybody else had similar experience, it breaks my heart to pay a premium. Though the standard injection of supermarket jungle juice seems to be bringing back the average! still pining for my 3dr, no removeable hardtop, no drop glass tailgate, no roof rack, no pockets everywhere to stow all that man kit

I normally get around 31 mpg from my auto, but with Shell V Power I get around 34.5 mpg

Wonder how i changes cost per mile. It's more expensieve but you get more miles to a tank, granted, but if it costs more per mile, I can't see that it's worth it. 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

Cost effectiveness depends on the price differential. If the price of 'premium' is around 6-7ppl (which it has been in the past) then its unlikely to be cost effective to use it. I use Millers power plus 4 which for the most part offers what the premium fuels offer, though you have to add it yourself which isn't quite so convenient. Millers works out a less than 2ppl which means it is easier to achieve a break even on the cost. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... I have found that I break even, with the extra miles I get out of a tank full, covers the extra cost. But the engine does run a little quieter and is more responsive with the V-Power diesel.

It's also nice to know that the internals are being kept in tip top condition. I never use anything else. BUt as I fill the FL2 up once every 3-4 weeks, the extra cost is not worth worrying about. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. I fill mine up every week and the % increase in ecoinomy from V-Power does not seem to match the % increase in price. I use 60 ml of Millers Diesel Power Plus in every tankful, bought in 5L can at my local motor factor, and I think that takes care of the internals OK. I've had to hurry a few journies of late so the average has dropped below 40 but still happy with that and the fun-factor. Smile Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

So, does Millers actually give you better MPG?

Just got around to reading the 2T oil post (in my defence, it's very long, so I never read it all) and think I've answered my own question.

Yes it can, but by the looks of things 2T oil would do a better job.

Gonna keep reading more of it, and decide if I go Millers or 2T oil.

I have run on Redex Blue for a couple of tanks, that done nothing either, no change to the MPG or anything

Personally think its a waste of money adding stuff to diesel Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

No, I have the same opinion Thumbs Up There must be a whole bunch of us out there as well that thinks adding this and that won’t help Confused

The best thing for fuel economy is not 2T, oil additives, .e-freelys etc. it's your own left foot that's the issue here Shocked 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Just updated my spreadsheet:
Total miles to last fill 16,689
Average fuel consuption (all miles divided by all fuel added at the pump to 2nd auto-shutoff) = 38.63
Average of all trip computer Ave consumption readings for the same period = 40.3
Best individual tankful consumption 42.96 at 3800 miles
Measured average rose for the first 6000 miles to 40.2 then levelled out and dropped recently due to some fast journey times! Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
