Freelander 2 start button not responding

Hi everyone, new to the site. I have a problem completely out of the blue this morning.
Key fob in, pressed start button lights on and nothing. Lots of strange clicking from key fob area
and fuse box in passenger foot well (from relays I presume). been on all day checking everything people suggest.
Battery fully charged, fuses checked, no engine lights/faults on dash or found on diagnostic machine,
earth lead solid and clean etc. Even tried spare working key fob. 2007 2.2 diesel. Any Help greatly appreciated. Thanks Karl

Hi thanks for your reply, Been a lot of comments Ive looked at mentioning the starter motor and solenoid, but I
have had no issues or problems at all in this area. Can they just fail overnight?

check that there is no pressure on the steering wheel lock, this was a problem mainly on pre facelift models I recall, worth a try At work

Right at the end of these posts (mostly to do with steering lock non starting)

johanlr2

Steering column locked??? solved it or,
my starter solenoid wire corroded away.. made up a new lug and still using it, land rover wanted to replace the start/stop module and some relay on the ecu... almost a R10k qoute vs a lug nothing more than R2

and below that post

Thanks Johanlr2
Mine turned out to be the starter motor.
I replaced with a new one and am going to see if I can get the old one reconditioned.

Luckily she is back to being 100% now.

Morning all, many thanks for replies. Actually fixed it this morning. Steering lock thingy majig! Obviously jams inside few taps with screwdriver on unit, key fob in, no clicking like crazy and started straight away. Will look into sorting properly but back on the road. Daft set up really! Many thanks!

If you can live without the steering lock an emulator works.
